You only get a subset of the functions in SG in that case.

R Neil Haugen Jan 28, 2014 2:07 PM (in response to TheGreatDeVane)Longer answer ... the "Direct Link" process from PPro to Sg is designed to use the PPro project file ... Sg doesn't re-do any of it into Sg project "language". In current utilization, that means that Sg is locked-out of ANY change to the timeline or the project's general paramters ... ALL timeline/project parameters MUST be dealt with only in PPro. Hence, only the "Look" tab being available. You can't change the frame-rate speed, the proportions, any thing like that within Sg.
You can't even create a new grading layer ... from within Sg.
You CAN create grading layers though ... by doing so in PPro. Add "adjustment layers" either over individual clips or groups of clips or entire sequences/timelines in PPro before linking to Sg, then you can use those in Sg for grading layers as if you'd created them in Sg. I've got used to doing that, but still ... occasionally I'll get to Sg and realize I need to go back and make myself a layer. Takes what, 30 seconds tops?
This way, Sg is simply a grading program. And it actually works rather slickly for that, just don't try to do timeline things or render or any of that in Sg. Use PPro for all that.

I think that should be corrected, with those showing up as Adjustment Layers in PP. We don't always know in advance which clips will best be served by a correction layer until we're grading, and as smooth as the back and forth process generally is, it still gets tedious real quick when you have to do it a dozen times a session.

R Neil Haugen Jan 29, 2014 3:00 PM (in response to JSS1138)Jim,
I would agree, I'd love to be able to add grading layers in Sg. Doesn't seem THAT horrible a change of the PPro project file to let PPro do, but then ... I'm no coder.
