Need preloader/splash screen help for an Android/AIR/AS3 app

I want to dispaly an image while the user is waiting for our AIR/AS3 app to finish loading. I've read that this can be done in Flex but can't figure out how to do this in an AIR/AS3 app.

I've seen this one suggestion http://forums.adobe.com/thread/764981 but was hoping for something better.
