Native Android viewer is now available
Neil Enns - Adobe Feb 5, 2014 4:52 PMI’m thrilled to announce that our new native Android viewer, along with a new web-based DPS App Builder, is now available.
The new native Android viewer supports both tablets and phones running Android 4.0.3 or later. For a list of supported features and limitations see Building native DPS apps for Android devices. For a comparison chart, see the DPS supported feature list. To create a custom app using our native Android viewer visit the new web-based DPS App Builder and log in with your App Builder credentials.

Q: What features are supported in the new native Content Viewer for Android?

Q: Does the native Android viewer support purchase of both single issues and subscriptions through the Amazon store?
A: Yes. You can enable in-app purchase of both single issues and subscriptions through the Amazon store.
Q: Does the native Android viewer support purchase of both single issues and subscriptions through Google Play?
A: Currently it only supports in-app single-issue purchase. It does not support Google Play subscriptions.
Q: Does the native Android viewer support Single Edition applications?
A: No. It only supports multi-issue applications for Pro and Enterprise customers.
Q: How do I build native Android apps?
A: Please review the Building Native DPS Apps for Android Devices help topic located at http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-publishing-suite/help/building-android-apps.html
Q. Are there any significant differences between the desktop DPS App Builder and the web-based DPS App Builder?
A: The functionality is the same, however you can only build a native Content Viewer for Android via the web-based DPS App Builder.
Q: How do I edit an existing app in the new web-based DPS App Builder?
A: Editing existing apps isn’t supported yet but should be available in about three weeks. Until then delete your old app and create a new one if you need to change a setting.
Q: Does the new web-based DPS App Builder support creation of all DPS viewers?
A: No. It only supports building a native Content Viewer for Android. Please continue to use the desktop DPS App Builder to build Content Viewers for iOS or our legacy Android viewer.
Q: How long will Adobe continue to support both native and AIR-based Android apps?
A: We intend to support building the AIR-based, legacy Content Viewer for Android through 2014. Please note, we are no longer adding new functionality or making any fixes to the AIR-based, legacy Content Viewer for Android. The last version of the .folio file format supported by the AIR-based, legacy Content Viewer for Android is DPS v29.
Q: Is there an Adobe Content Viewer available based on the new native Android viewer?
A: Not yet, but soon! We're putting the finishing touches on it and hope to have it available by the end of February.
