Trying to install FP 12 on a MacBook Pro with OS X 10.8.5.  Neither automatic nor manual installation packages work.  Manual install quits at 6%.  Right now I can on use this computer to even upload photos.

Mike M,

Sorry, but the “clean install” technique did not work. Installation still stopped at 6% again. Is there any kind of installation error log to look at? The MacBook Pro (OS X 10.8.5 / Safari) in only a year old and is working perfectly. BTY - The automatic FP 12 installer worked perfectly on my 3 year old iMax (10.9.1 / Safari) a couple of days ago.

Download the offline installer: Flash Player (Mac OS X) if you don't have it already.

Mount the DMG and DO NOT run the installer from it.

Right click it, and "Show Package Contents".

Then, in Contents/Resources, double click the Adobe Flash Player.pkg and run the COCOA installer.

It goes through where the GUI installer fails.

Mike M,

Thanks for the quick response. OK now the really bazaar part, the installer says the computer is not running OS X 10.6 or higher. But, it is running 10.8.5 (its original OS).

Any recommendations?

Let me ask you. At any point in the whole process did you see this?

GIE.jpg

Specifically, a "General Installation Error"?

Your troubles aren't coming from Flash Player.

You're missing a file that was made visible by the 10.8.5 update. Hundreds of thousands of Mac users all over the world deleted it, not knowing what it was. It causes this when it's missing.

Download this file: "Secrets" pereference pane by right clicking and choosing "Download Linked File As"

1.jpg

And this one: mach_kernel.zip by right clicking and choosing "Download Linked File As"

8.jpg

Quit Safari and Install Secrets, and open your System Preferences.

2.jpg

Open the Secrets Preference Pane, and check "Show hidden files"

3.jpg

You'll need to press the "Quit this" button,

4.jpg

and restart Finder, by right clicking the Dock icon.

5.jpg

Then, place the mach_kernel.zip file in the Mac HD directory,

6.jpg

and unzip it. You should see a "faded" mach_kernel file appear.

7.jpg

Trash the zip file.

Reopen your System Preferences>Secrets and uncheck "Show Hidden files".

Instead of quitting Finder and relaunching it, reboot your Mac.

Your Flash Player installer won't quit anymore.
