Flash Player not working

I had a microsoft update last night ( Microsoft Office File Validation Add-on & Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool For Windows) now my flash player will not work any suggestions? thanks

Windows XP, Vista, 7 or 8?

IE or another browser?

My friend  down the road, he cannot get Flash to work properly, it stutters through  videos, on both Firefox and Chrome.  It is the latest 32-bit version of  Flash.
Machine details:
Acer Aspire V5-122P V2.08
Windows 8 64-bit
1000 megahertz AMD A4-1250 APU with Radeon HD Graphics
4GB RAM
I have tried disabling hardware acceleration in Flash - doesn't make a difference.
Reinstalling Flash doesn't make a difference.
I have exhausted my knowledge.
Any clues?
