1. Re: Footage Won't Add To Timeline & At What Stage?
R Neil Haugen Feb 13, 2014 1:37 PM (in response to DudleyRoss)We've got to have some info before much assistance can be given.
Which precise version of Speedgrade are you runnning, and also, other apps in the "chain" such as PrPro or whatever. Also naturally OS, video card/s, that sort of thing.
As to where to use it, most here suggest getting your footage edited into a timeline in PrPro and then going to Speedgrade for grading. You don't waste time grading things you're not using this way. Some of us using especially the CC version take a sequence over to Sg via direct-link at various times as we feel ready for a bit to move "on", some strongly suggest getting a solid "edit-lock" on the whole project before bothering with grading.
Then there's the "ish" about doing fx before or after grading ... or both. If you know the opening to the musical "Fiddler on the Roof", lead character Tevye is introducing the characters (in all senses) of their village. In introducing one guy, he notes that the man sold a horse to another man claiming it was only 6 when it was really 12. Then in an aside, tells one of the two men standing in a crowd dickering about something else that the horse was really 12. Immediately the entire crowd is arguing about that horse sale from four years back.
We can be a LOT like that on where in the process do we do ... "X".

JSS1138 Feb 17, 2014 10:16 AM (in response to DudleyRoss)Keeping it simple, SG won't work with that footage.
And you normally do your color work after editing. This is what Direct Link is for:
