Welcome to the forum.
What do you wish to do with that AVI file?
That will determine how you handle it.
Unfortunately, video-editing does involve large files, so HDD real estate is very important.
Good luck, and let us know a bit more, please.
AVI is about 13Gig per hour, at the full quality of the VHS tape... any reduction in size also means a reduction in quality... use a USB hard drive for offline storage, copying "current" files back to your internal drive for editing
My first objective was to convert VHS to digital. I am half way thru that but file size is enormous. I could buy an external drive, but I thought there might be a format like MPEG4 that would take up less space. My next objective will be to learn PE11 so I can edit the video. I want to make movies pulling clips from different videos and give to people. These movies could be on an external hard dirve or DVD.
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 11 running on? I am assuming some version of Windows? Which one would it be..Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit or other?
My next objective will be to learn PE11 so I can edit the video.
