    How to create a directory by merging an excel file into indesign?


      I need to recreate a neighborhhod directory. It includes the family's last name, first names of both parents, childrens names, all birthdates and cell phone numbers for each person. I have converted an excel spreadsheet into the csv format. I have formatted my InDesign file with how I want the layout with the data merge categories. When I click on the preview I am able to click through and see each familys info. However, when I select "create merged document" it only does one family and then creates 3,000 plus blank pages with no info. I want to be able to create a directoy that has one familys info and then right below it the next familys info and so on. I have a total of 189 families. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.
