    Unhappy with System

    rsukhram@tgioa.com Level 1

I am at a point where I know my investments were made poorly and thinking about ditching my cards and starting over.  I think my system specs are pretty good.:

dual E5 Xeons (8 cores each)

      64GB ram (8x8)

      Asus Z9PE-D8 WS

      1 SSD for OS

2 WD 10K in Raid 0 media files

      1 WD 10k for caching

      GPUS:

      Tesla C2075

      Quadro 4000

Quadro K2000 (suggested by NVidia so I can add a 3rd display)

My intentions are to have speedy results with Premiere and AE (both on the CC subscription).  If you were to add/remove to this setup what would you reccomendations be?

      Thanks

      Lo

The GPU's wont help AE much but I would definitely switch to a 780Ti for Premiere if you have the PSU that can handle it. AE should be fine with that amount of ram and 2x 8 core unless those Xeons are under 2.6Ghz in which case they would be poor for editing.

If you are unhappy with all that expensive hardware I would recommend that you test your hardware software setup with our Premiere Pro BenchMark (PPBM)  Use the PPBM7 Project and Statistics files.

              thanks Eric,

              the xeons are E5-2670 (2.6GHz)

I have a Antec HPC 1300 watt PSU.  How many displays does the 780Ti support?  Would I benefit in Premiere if I setup 2 780Ti's?

Also where do you think i am lacking for AE to perform since its not the GPU?  could it be the Xeons?

ok  never ran this before.   I will run.  Should I post back anything here?

2x 780Ti would not help the realtime performance. Only the export performance would be effected. The Xeons @ 2.6GHz is low for 8 cores but should be able to handle what threads well. Do you have the Multiprocessing enabled and enable that for Ram preview as well.

If you register on the site you can see the results page.  The fastest system recorded is a dual Xeon system and with your Speccy program you can see the configuration.  It has the E5-2687W @ 3.1 GHz CPU's but the major difference is the Areca RAID controller rather than the Maximus GPU's

I just got an offer for a computer build with these specs:

                      CoolerMaster Case HAF X
                      CPU Core i7-4770K Quad 3.5GHz LGA 1150 8MB Box
ASUS SABERTOOTH Z87, Intel Socket 1150
                      1x GeForce GTX780 3GB GDDR5 HDMI

I'ts costing me somewhere around 2200euros
I mainly work with 3ds Max with Vray Renderer, and Adobe Creative Suite CS6 Products,

Premiere, After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop and Flash.

What do you think, will this setup do fine on my workflow, or should i try and move on with any quadro graphic card.

Currently I'm working on old PC
                      Dual Quad Core
                      2x Intel Xeon e5440 @ 2.83 GHz

initially i did not.   Adobe gave me these setting yesterday.  Let me know if you think there is anything I should alter.  I know my caching should not be on the same drive as the OS (I am installing a dedicated 1 TB drive for this today)

Im going to do a re-format of my SSD today and start from scratch.

Also in regard to hyper threading should I enable or disable?  I have 16 physical cores (32 with HT) bu ti heard this halves the speed of the CPU.

Move the media cache off the OS drive. Uncheck the Box under the AE Multiprocessing where it says only for render q.

                            Good morning Bill,

I downloaded and ran the test file (PPBM7-DE) and did all the timelines as per the instruction but I cannot get the "Statistics PPBM7-v3" file to run.  I am using Win 8.1.  Is there a reccomended program to runt this file?

Also I got a snapshot of my system from that speccy program.

When you say that you cannot the Statistics file to run what does the system tell you?
