You have to work with paragraph style anyway. Remember: No text without paragraph style.
The first paragraph of your page has to have in its paragraph style definition in keep options a starter on even pages only.

I would review the options in the Fiery and/or via the printer's properties at the print stage.

Deselect duplex, run simplex as two jobs.
Yes, variable on one side only. I don't want to run the piece through the press twice if I can help it. Will review options in Fiery as well. Thanks for the help!
I recall gettng tripped on such a project. Is your situation similar to -
You have created a 2 page doc with variable intended for side 2.
You send the static two pages to the Fiery and designate them as VDP master, duplex.
You create the merge with the variable data only as an multiple page InDesign (or pdf) and print.
Here's the hiccup. The variable doc will expect to print on the odd pages (or both). Sending the first document but changing the print sequence to 2,1 (reorder the pages) can solve that.
