    How to fix - File...is associated with another photo in catalog

      In trying to re organize my catalog, I have merged some folders and now there are a slew of photos that are associated wrong. Is there a simple way to reverse my error with out loosing my develops?

          You probably have missing files indicated by an exclamation mark on the thumbnails. The simplest way is to put them back where they were. Then drag and drop folders or images within the Lightroom Library.

           

          You can click on the exclamation mark and point to the new location if there are not a huge number.

           

          Another cause could be sequential. This sometimes occurs if you re-use the same file name so for example sequence number 15 gets allocated to what was previously image 16. This can screw up the metadata and previews. This can cause odd rotations/duplications. If this is your situation I would recommend never using the same file name more than once. If you need to rename or merge a batch again, use a temporary file name first and then rename with your preferred name.
