Somebody had CC (perhaps a trial) and saved the files.... Waht it says in finder means nothing -- the OS only knows about the latest version currently installed.
but they didn't, I never had CC, no one else works on this file...
I definitely would remember having CC, also never would have wanted the full CS6 suite and CC, nor would I have shot myself in the foot by saving it as a CC or CS7 file... I know they're not backwards compatible. I had the same issue with CS5-6...
All evidence is to the contrary, but if you’ll post the file somewhere we can have a look.
awe man, I would if I could, but I can't do that.... NDA's and such, clients are rather personal, etc.
It's so strange, but my current "fix" is transferring it to a friend with CC so he can save it as an IDML so I can work on it... will that work Ok?
thank you both for your help, this sucks....
That’s what I was proposing to do for you.
Before your friend exports to IDML, have him/her cmd/ctrl click on About InDesign. That will give a full history of the file including what version opened and save the file and when.
That should give you a clue as to what happened here.
oh wow! wait, are you saying:
Open the file in CC, then cmd/ctrl click on About InDesign with the file open and it will then give a file history??
that would be GREAT!!
what do you think about downloading the trial version of CC and opening it that way?
That will work, too.
And just for clarity, that's Cmd OR Crtl click, depending on the platform.
Are you saying JMB that you've been working on "a huge project for two years" and that you've never saved any incremental copies?
great tip, thank you...!
haha no not at all saying that. I have half a dozen versions, each with a new set of changes... all backed up... it just so happens that my latest version will not open, either copy of it, so - good times.
The last set of changes was June 19 of last year, just so you can get a sense of the pace of this one...
You know what, I am an idiot- I woke up too early this morning and ran into this problem, that's my weak excuse....
looking at the adobe CC trial webpage + the date of the last changes + realizing this computer is newish, I relize that I must have had the trial version of CC before gettin CS6 around the time of the last changes. I totally spaced on that..... my f'in bad, ugh- if ever anything should be stricken from the internet its this lame thread... sorry everyone
Don't feel too bad. We hear pretty much the same story every time this comes up, which is pretty often.
I did finally get it open: I wetransfer'd it to a friend who opened it in CC saved it as an IDML and sent it back, I opened it in CS6 and then saved it as an INDD... was a good work around. The IDML file didn't alter the original at all, so it all worked out perfect.
Thank you for the help!
I searched the forum before posting to see if I could find any answers, so hopefull if someone else runs into the same issue this thread will help...
