PSE12: Receiving 'Error Deleting Media' message.

    nealeh Community Member

      PSE12 / Windows 7  64-bit

This is weird, there is one item in my catalog that I cannot delete. Whenever I try I get a dialog box 'Error Deleting media'. I've run 'Repair Catalog'. but that didn't fix it. I've tried deleting the file it is connected to but it still won't let me (either directly or via Find> All Missing Files').

The only other occurrence of this I've traced in the forum is at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1052871?tstart=0 and that didn't seem to get resolved either. Fortunately though in my case it is just this one file, I can still add files and delete others.

Any suggestions for how I might resolve this from within PSE? If not what might be a safe and simple tool to delete the record from the catalog database file directly?

      Cheers,

Has the file been moved from the original folder?

What file path is shown in the information panel?

            Did you try the following:

            - highlight the file thumbnail

            - menu File / reconnect missing file

            - in the dialog, click on the small icon in the second line, just right of the 'Missing files of the catalog'.

            - choose the option to delete from catalog.

No. The path was C:\FFOUTPUT and the error arises whether or not the file exists in that folder. It is most strange. The very first version of PSE I ever had was v2 (bundled with a scanner) which I didn't use much, but I've been a major user of the Organizer for versions 5,7,9,10,11,&12 and I've never had an error like it.

But almost immediately after posting the question I remembered a reference in these forums that the database is actually an sqlite database and I found SQLite Database Browser at sourceforge. I've been able to delete the record from catalog.pse12db (after carefully making a copy of it first) and that seems to have resolved it. I also ran a repair on the fixed database as well just in case there were any dependencies.

I still have the copy of the faulty version so if you have any suggestions for fixing it with PSE I can still try them out - directly editing the database is not very elegant!

              Cheers,

No I hadn't tried that Michael. But I just did and same error:

I am just wondering : there may be no problem in the catalog.pse12db database, but there may be something else wrong in the rest of the catalog, perhaps in the thumb.5.cache file which is another sqlite database.

Things to try : deleting the cache file and trying to delete the .avi file before it is rebuilt,

or duplicate the catalog folder, erase anything but the catalog.pse12db database (all files and subfolders), and start the catalog copy by double clicking on the  catalog.pse12db file.

I hadn't realised that thumb.5.cache was also an sqlite database. But I'd already 'cleaned' it after I'd removed the problem entry. I reimported the problem file and then I COULD delete it, which I assume (always iffy!) also deleted the thumbnail.

But I did try your second suggestion, just double-clicking the catalog.pse12db that I'd copied to an empty folder, but same problem ' Error Deleting Media'.

FWIW The database entry looks like:

                    1.png

Which is pretty much like any other video file entry in the database.

Definitely the oddest problem I've ever encountered with the Organizer.

                    Cheers,
