    Media Encoder Render Priority

    chfilm Community Member

      Hi,

when using media encoder to render after effects compositions in the background, is there a way to change the priority? I mean, it barely uses 20 % of my cpu power, though I don't need all the rest for continuing working in after effects. I couldn't find any settings for this.

When Adobe Media Encoder (AME) is processing an After Effects composition, the headless version of After Effects that is doing the actual rendering just uses a single process. Also, the headless version of After Effects used in this scenario doesn't use the GPU.

If you want the rendering phase to go faster, then don't use AME for the rendering phase; instead, render and export a lossless master movie out of After Effects through the render queue and have that output go into a watch folder for AME to pick up and convert into your various final delivery formats. This allows the After Effects rendering to use Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing and the GPU.
