Are you using Photoshop Elements or Premiere Elements?

•What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.6.8"---not just "Mac".
•Have you installed any recent program or OS updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.)
•What kind(s) of image file(s)? When talking about camera raw files, include the model of camera.
•If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)?
•What were you doing when the problem occurred?
•What other software are you running?
•Tell us about your computer hardware. How much RAM is installed? How much free space is on your system (C:) drive?
•Has this ever worked before? If so, do you recall any changes you made to Premiere Elements, such as adding Plug-ins, brushes, etc.? Did you make any changes to your system, such as updating hardware, printers or drivers; or installing/uninstalling any programs?
And some other questions...
•What are you editing, and does your video have a red line over it BEFORE you do any work?
•Have you viewed the tutorial links at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1275830 page?
•Which version of Quicktime do you have installed?
When I complete editing my video and come back to it later, I'm receiving the following error message: "This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed".
Could you detail what you just wrote...
When you complete editing your video...what happens then, do you save/close the project or do you leave it open? It sounds like you are saving/closing.
When you come back to it later, do you mean that you are opening the saved/closed project and that is when you are getting the "This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed" message?
I suspect the latter and therefore would ask for the details on how you are opening the saved/closed project. You may just be doing it in a why so that you are essentially trying to open a project.prel file in another which cannot be done.
Just speculation at this point. The answers will be in your details.
It works well when I complete editing, I can save it and reopen it. But say like the next day I try to open it, it give me that error message.
Thanks for the follow up. Good information.
How are you opening the saved closed project? What are the steps that you take in doing that? The answer may rest there.
Also, are you moving, deleting, renaming any files or folders imported into the project after the project has been saved closed?
