You'd have to ask the creator, but it is reasonable to assume that AE was a large part of it. Even if the actual animation is 3D, AE and PS would have been used a lot to create the textures.
The look was probably arrived at by a large group of people working together with experienced effects and graphics people.
The realization was, as Myl says, a combination of AE effects, plugins and other applications. I can easily identify Shatter and Card Dance bu, whew, those effects only work as small elements in the much more complex and larger construction. Rather like how one lighting instrument is used to illuminate a set or one tube of paint is used in an artist's portrait.
