This has nothing at all to do with the internet connection, it's the LAN connection that's the problem. Check your network cables, and if you work in an environment that has one, talk to the IT department.
If you can't stabilize the network connection, copy the file to the hard drive to edit, then back to the network when you're through.
As mentioned by Peter correctly, your LAN connection maybe one of the reasons for this behavior.
Beacuse when InDesign try to Edit Or Save remote document in disconnected state, it shutdowns as protective measure.
However, can you please provide more detail about "changed the location of automatic saves" ?
I am having the exact same problem. I am running windows 10, I have a 250BG SSD (C Drive) Drive and a 1TB External (E drive), I work mostly off the external. If I don't save every 5mins or if I've made too many changes it crashes. it happens mostly on the larger files. At this point I'm blaming everything on Windows 10 because it SUCKS! but if there maybe is another issue I need assistance before I break something valuable.
