Newbie: How to make white transparent?

    deko220
If I save a gif as a png, and the graphic is on a white background, is it possible to change all white to transparent? I understand I can change the canvas to transparent (this has already been done) - but it there some white-to-transparent function I can use to modify the image itself?

check out the "Optimize" window (usually top left) ... choose GIF Adaptive
          from the dropdown...
instead of "No Transparency" choose "Index Transparency" and then use the
<eyedropper +> tool just below the drop down to choose (from your canvas)
which color you want ot make transparent... Make sense?

            Ahhh... I see!

I didn't know about those little buttons in the lower left corner of the optimize window that allow you to make selected colors transparent.

That sure beats using the eraser tool!

            Thanks for the tip!
