Loss of sharpness on import, but not when zoomed in

I tried looking this up before posting but could not find anything.  The way I currently have my workflow structred, is that I initially transfer my images off my camera and into the cloud so that theyre accessible on all my devices. Then when I'm on my computer, I copy/paste selected files out of iPhoto and into a folder on my desktop. Then I open the files from Photoshop. However, I've noticed that upon import the photo appears to have lost a lot of sharpness as compared to how it looks in iPhoto, or the Viewer or whatever. But when I zoom into the photo and then do the same in iPhoto/Viewer, I can see that there actually has not actually been any loss of sharpness. So why does it look less sharp upon initial import. I checked to make sure color profiles match and they always do, so I don't think this is the problem.
