1. Re: Speedgrade smoothing skin / complexion
BernardDigital Mar 1, 2014 12:30 PM (in response to ALLENT)I would use AfterEffects for skin retouching... You can really get amazing results because its basically photoshop for video...
But as were on stuff left out of SpeedGade...
Do you know why the video in the GUI monitor becomes disabled when you turn on duel monitoring or external monitoring? This is crazy to me... I use a video card to do my external monitoring so there is no way for me to move my mouse over to the external monitor... So if I try to make a mask or anyting I can't get to the widget controls to adjust and move the mask around...
I am just so perplexed why they would not leave the video feed on the GUI monitor enabled and also enable the external monitor... I mean Premiere Pro has no problem outputing mulitple monitor feeds...
Do you have a problem with this as well or have come accross this yet?

ALLENT Mar 1, 2014 12:40 PM (in response to BernardDigital)I have not tried running my 2nd monitor yet in SG (I am just learning it at the moment), but if you can't use a duel monitor.... that is CRAZY!! 90% of the work I do is duel monitor. WOW, I may have to rethink my color grading (can you say Davinci Resolve)!! They have to get this stuff working correctly, or it is useless for REAL WORK!

BernardDigital Mar 1, 2014 12:52 PM (in response to ALLENT)Yea its so weird... I have a sesson coming up next week so I was testing stuff out and getting ready... And am finding speedgrade is not ready yet...
But unless somone says different or knows what I am doing wrong...
It will seriously be like ohhhh you want a power window there... Hold on let me disable external monitoring... Then place the window (god forbid you have move it a lil after)... Then re-enable external montoring and then make the correction... And I will have to do this for everyshot...

ALLENT Mar 9, 2014 2:11 PM (in response to JSS1138)Wow does the REDGIANT stuff work well.... between that and the "pop" slider in Colorista II, my clients are looking "GOOD"! But, why isn't something like this available in a high-end color grading software system like SG???????? I don't want to do all my Color work in PP, it is actually easier to use REDGIANT stuff in AE (i.e. preview outline for masking) ... but bottom line is I really don't want to involve 3 software programs to do one task like smoothing out complexion! COME ON ADOBE.... this should be a no-brainer in a great program like SG... or atleast open it up to 3rd party software (if a product is not in development for this MUCH needed tool)!

R Neil Haugen Mar 9, 2014 7:49 PM (in response to ALLENT)Hey the demo of "cosmo" looks interesting ... it works as well as the demo? That would be nice ...
The one RedGiant product I've used so far is the free Colorista LutBuddy ... in Ae. It's an awesome little tool for both applying LUT's within Ae and also ... for creating LUT's ... make something you like, and it will read an area of the image and make a LUT from it ... usable in anything from Ae through PrPro to Sg ... cool.
And I'm a total dweeb otherwise in Ae still ... so ... interested in hearing more about cosmo ...

7. Re: Speedgrade smoothing skin / complexion
ALLENT Mar 9, 2014 11:56 PM (in response to R Neil Haugen)RED GIANT's Cosmo is just sick. It identifies the skin tone automatically, and sticks the"keyer" to skin like glue, then gives you a ton of slider options to tweak as much (or as little) as you want to apply.... if you want to crank it up you can easily take 20 years off your actors. What 40 year old doesn't want to look 20!!! Then again if you want a very subtle smooth look, that is easy to get too. Red Giant is really doing well in this area. I can't believe SpeedGrade is leaving us hanging (with just the gaussian blur option)... it works OK, but doesn't leave any of the important features very clear (i.e. eyes, lips, teeth) it kind of blurs everything. Cosmo does NOT, it retains amazing detail in the eyes, etc... I'll say it again, Adobe needs to open up Speed Grade to 3rd party plugins like RED GIANT. I don't understand why they don't, it is available in PP and AE... Go figure... maybe it is just a matter of time.
