I have seen this for another thread, but I think the source of the problem has to be different than mine. When trying to coverts the Render mode in the comp settings from Classic 3D to Ray-traced 3D, I get an error
"After Effects error: Ray-Traced 3D: Out of paged mapped memory for Ray tracer. Your project may exceed GPU limits. Try closing other applications. Try updating the CUDA driver. ( 5070 :: 2 )"
What is a CUDA driver and where do I find an update? No other application of significance are running along with AE.
I am running Mavericks 10.9.2 with After Effects CC 220.127.116.11 on an iMac running 3.4 GH, 24 GB Ram, plenty of free hard drive space. It is running the AMD Radeon HD 6970M 2048 MB custom graphics card.
Any idea what the issue is and how to fix it?

You can't use GPU acceleration of the ray-traced 3D renderer with an AMD/ATI card. This feature requires an Nvidia GPU. CUDA is an Nvidia technology that only runs on Nvidia GPUs.
Details are here:
ok, well, not sure where that leaves me. I have an object created in Illustrator I need to extrude into a 3D obejct in After Effects. All the tutorials I can find show the way that give me the error. Any suggestions on how I do it?
Use Cinema 4D Lite to make your 3d object with an Extrude.
