    EPUB Error

    Camilia20 Level 1

      I have CS6 English / Arabic and wish to change the default to English LTR. Otherwise, I get this error after EPUB validation. I change the direction manually but still get this: error OEBPS/content.opf | attribute "page-progression-direction" not allowed here; expected attribute id

      What are:

      1. OEBPS

      2. page-progression direction

      3. expected attribute id

          Hi,

          EPUB 2.0 does not support page-progression-direction and thats the reason why you are getting error on validation. You can export to EPUB 3.0 to avoid this error or edit your EPUB 2.0 to remove this property from content.opf file.

          In InDesign 9.2, we have resolved this issue and no more emit this property in EPUB 2.0 export.

          Regards,

          Pooja

            Thank

            you Pooja.

            I get other types of errors when I export to EPUB 3. Here they are:

            1. OEBPS/css/ --The 'direction' property must not be included in

            an EPUB Style Sheet.

            2. OEBPS/ --External DTD entities are not allowed. Remove the

            DOCTYPE.

            I don't know how to remove the DOCTYPE because I don't know what DTD or OEBPS mean.

              Hi Camilia,

              Instead of direction property we should be using dir property and we have fixed this in InDesign 9.2.

              The DOCTYPE html related error is also fixed in InDesign 9.2.

              For now, you can change the declarations in xhtml file to:

              <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no" ?><!DOCTYPE html><html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:epub="http://www.idpf.org/2007/ops">

              toc.xhtml file to:

              <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no" ?><html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

              toc.ncx file to:

              <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no" ?><ncx xmlns="http://www.daisy.org/z3986/2005/ncx/" version="2005-1">

              and let me know if the errors are removed.

              Regards,

              Pooja

                Thank you again for taking the time to help. I will place an ad to hire someone to help me read what you wrote. I can only understand a plain language. I have been learning how to convert my books to EPUBs from lynda.com and don't understand html or xml language, etc. I do not have an access to 9.2 and cannot afford it.

                  I am sorry, I did not realise that not everybody understands HTML.  The steps are not diffficult, I am sure you would be able to do them:

                  1. Download Sigil, it is an open source EPUB editor.

                  2. Open your epub in Sigil

                  3. You will see three types of files here:

                       - with .xhtml extension

                       - toc.ncx

                      -  toc.xhtml

                  All you have to do is to replace the beginning lines in these files with the ones I have stated in above post.

                  If you are still finding it difficult, you may share your EPUB file on dropbox and I will do it for you . My email id is: pja@adobe.com.

                  Regards,

                  Pooja

                    Thank you so much. I will do that but will take me some time and will let you know how it went. I appreciate your support.
