rbpetex Mar 7, 2014 9:44 AM (in response to nealeh)Yes, but the update doesn't work on my PC. I get an error code U44M1P2003. Did you have any trouble downloading and installing the update? It seems to download okay, but the update fails on my machine. A bit frustrating.

nealeh Mar 7, 2014 10:02 AM (in response to rbpetex)All worked fine for me. Updated PSE, PRE and the Organizer, all of which now show 12.1 in their Help> About.
It would have been nice to have some details of what the update addressed. All the update manager showed was along the lines of 'addressess performance and stability issues'.

I see http://forums.adobe.com/people/andaleebfatima1 has been posting details about the update on all the 'Mac Organizer crashing' discussions so I'm guessing that's where a lot of the stability issues have been targeted. But it would be nice if we could get some specifics.

5. Re: Photoshop Elements 12.1 Application Update now available
Barbara B. Mar 7, 2014 1:28 PM (in response to nealeh)Here's what Bob Gager (head of the PSE team) says:
Primarily performance and stability fixes related to the Revel (Mobile
Albums) integration. A specific example is that in 12.0, if you connected
to a revel account that had lots of photos, it took a long time before the
first photo showed up in the Organizer. That now starts happening right
away.
We also fixed a bug with the pressure sensitivty sensor in the N-Trig pens
that are included with the new Sony Laptops that we are now bundled with.

Where were you seeing these constant crashes, Photoshop Elements 12 or Elements Organizer 12 on your iMac?
And, what were you doing in the program when the crashes occurred?
From Bob Gager's description of 12.1, I do not see an immediate connection between what he has said Adobe did and iMac crashes.
What is the operating system for your iMac?
Thanks.

Thanks for your insights. Not much more than ..stability and performance..has surfaced on the Premiere Elements 12 side of things. But in common ground between Photoshop Elements 12 and Premiere Elements 12, that is, Elements Organizer 12, we are hoping to benefit from the information that is surfacing from you and others at the Adobe Photoshop Elements Forum.
It is my recollection that many of the updates needed for prior versions offered very little information about what the update(s) addressed and left buzz words like stability and performance.
My issues with Photoshop Elements 12 and Premiere Elements 12 have been in installation, signing in, and opening program. So, when I saw Update 12.1, I was hoping for perks that would include those targets. In my scheme of thinking, I had not gotten beyond troubleshooting installation, signing in, and opening program to get to crashes.
We will be watching for further developments. We thank you and Bob Gager for the information that is coming out.

About what you wrote in this other discussion:
http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?p=687176&posted=1#post687176
I'll be interesting to get more answers from users about failure of updates, and different results depending on users and OSs, such as the 'killing' of the ElementsAutoAnalyzer process.
In my case I see the main problem solved, which is : not having the process running necessarily in the background which created two acknowledged bugs. First, the failure to include saved files in the catalog, second, the impossibility to add to old albums.
As you can see, I was able to update successfully from the organizer menu, and after closing both editor and organizer.
It's very interesting to look at the date of the new files in the program folder : It's obvious that there has been big changes about Revel. The two main exe files for the editor and organizer have been updated; not the downloader.
The ElementsAutoAnalyzer has also been updated.

16. Re: Photoshop Elements 12.1 Application Update now available
nealeh Mar 8, 2014 4:41 AM (in response to Special Case)Googling U44M1P7 shows over a thousand hits. Perusing a dozen or so they all seem to say that the error relates to missing files that the installer cannot find to update. In the Mac environment I found several references to a cleanup tool called 'MacKeeper' that removed unused PSE language files and this was causing the failure.
In most cases (Mac & Windows) uninstalling PSE and then reinstalling restored any missing files and the updater successfully completed. Note this is for error U44M1P7, reinstalling may or may not fix the other error code issues people have been reporting.
Oh, and if you do use MacKeeper you might care to take a look at these pages:

D-R-M Mar 8, 2014 6:45 AM (in response to MichelBParis)I got Error U44M1P7 in updating PSE-12 (but not Premiere Elements) after using Barbara's recipe to kill the anaylyser. I put it all back togethet again, restarted, and then the update to PSE 12.1 worked.
I have now stopped the auto-analyser again as I don't see what it does which could be useful.
I have also laboriously removed all the so-called Smart Tags from all my 20'000 pictures. Select All, right click (and wait a long time) then choose a tag to remove. Repeat for all smart tags.

From what I have read, it was mentionned that it was necessary for Premiere Elements and/or uploading files to Revel? Maybe no longer necessery with the new update. I keep it disabled from the preferences as I don't use either of those softwares.

Barbara B. Mar 8, 2014 7:16 AM (in response to MichelBParis)Hi, MichelB. Yes, you can probably run the update without doing that, but given that uninstalling PSE with the space left in means that the auto analyzer gets left behind by the uninstaller, I think it's wise to put things back as they were before updating. Besides it's the only way to know whether or not an update fixes objectionable behavior. (Alas, this one does nothing to mak the auto analyzer more reasonable.)

Can you be more specific on "put it all back together again"?
-
21. Re: Photoshop Elements 12.1 Application Update now available
D-R-M Mar 8, 2014 8:35 AM (in response to SkyMatthew)Can you be more specific?
Yes: I put the name of the analyser back to the original (no space) and I re-ran MSCONFIG and ticked ElementsAutoAnalyser. I then rebooted the PC.
After this, I performed the updates again separately for Premiere Elements and Photoshop Elements in case of problems. However, both worked. I then unticked ElementsAutoAnalyser once more in MSCONFIG and restarted.
Note that Barbar has commenetd: "I think it's wise to put things back as they were before updating. Besides it's the only way to know whether or not an update fixes objectionable behavior." (I agree)
and and Michel B has added: "From what I have read, it (the analyser) was mentionned that it was necessary for Premiere Elements and/or uploading files to Revel? Maybe no longer necessery with the new update. I keep it disabled from the preferences as I don't use either of those softwares."
I don't use Revel so9 can't comment on this. I have checked that Premiere Elements 12.1 starts and runs, but have not actually edited anything with it yet. I have a new video to edit slightly, but am still strying to work out how to recouperate all my place names...

shikha.. Mar 9, 2014 9:52 PM (in response to Special Case)Hi Special Case,
Logs suggest that one of the PSE12 Plugin is missing on your machine: /Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 12/Support Files/Optional Plug-Ins/ImportModules/TWAIN.plugin/Contents/MacOS/TWAIN
Patch fails to apply as it is unable to locate this plugin.
You can put back the TWAIN plug-in to its original location or reinstall PSE12 on your machine and then try to apply patch. It should work.
Please revert for any further queries.
Thanks,

rbpetex Mar 10, 2014 9:22 AM (in response to Barbara B.)Just for those of us who use Windows PCs, I coped and moved the import/modules folder from the Optional Plugins folder to the Plugins folder and the update still did not work.
-
27. Re: Photoshop Elements 12.1 Application Update now available
Barbara B. Mar 10, 2014 9:35 AM (in response to rbpetex)Is that what you meant to type, rbpetex? If you moved to the regular Plugins folder, that's the opposite of what shikha is saying to do. If you had installed it by moving it from Optional plugins, you're supposed to put it back to avoid problems. If you installed it, you're creating the problem scenario.
-
28. Re: Photoshop Elements 12.1 Application Update now available
rbpetex Mar 10, 2014 10:13 AM (in response to Barbara B.)I'm confused, for sure. I understood that the import/module folder should NOT be in the Optional Plugins folder, but rather in the regular Plugins folder. So, I copied the import/module folder that resides in the Optional Plugins folder and pasted it in the regular Plugins folder. So, if I understand you correctly, you're saying that shikha said that the import/module folder should be in the Optional Plugins folder. On my PC, that is exactly where the folder was in the first place and the update didn't work. Didn't work with the folder moved to the regular Plugins folder either. You know, because PSE 12.0 works just fine on my computer, I just may blow off the update.
-
29. Re: Photoshop Elements 12.1 Application Update now available
Barbara B. Mar 10, 2014 10:33 AM (in response to rbpetex)The original location (which is where Shikha said ito put it if you have a problem with the update) was in Optional Plugins. People who want to use TWAIN scanners will put into the regular Plugins folder to install it.

31. Re: Photoshop Elements 12.1 Application Update now available
rbpetex Mar 10, 2014 2:11 PM (in response to rbpetex)Okay, as far as I can determine, if I wish to update to PSE 12.1, I have to uninstall and reinstall PSE 12.0. Then, I have to disable the auto analysis stuff, which involves about 4 steps. Then, for me, I have to reinstall several plugins. All of this is kind of a pain in the you-know-what. I can't help but wonder why these shenanigans are necessary for an update. Because PSE 12.0 works well on my Windows PC, I'm not sure that I want to jump through these numerous hoops. Granted, occasionally, PSE Organizer crashes for no apparent reason, which, presumably, the update would fix. I think I'll cool my heels for awhile and see what, if anything, transpires as the days go by..

32. Re: Photoshop Elements 12.1 Application Update now available
Special Case Mar 11, 2014 10:29 AM (in response to rbpetex)At Shikha's suggestion I reran the PSE 12 installer without removing the existing PSE installation. Then I checked for updates within the application and the updater completed without a hitch. This was on an iMac but sounds like the Windows version is also sensitive to the location of the TWAIN Plug-in.
I am still a little unclear if you need to move the TWAIN plug-in from Optional Plug-Ins back into the Plug-Ins folder for PSE 12 to see a compatible scanner. Since my scanner (Canon 8800F 32-bit driver) isn't compatible with PSE 12 I can't check that out.
I do have to move the TWAIN plug-in into the Plug-Ins folder in PSE 11 for it to see my scanner. I still have PSE 11 installed just for running my scanner and I verified that it doesn't see the scanner with the TWAIN file in the optional plug-ins folder.

33. Re: Photoshop Elements 12.1 Application Update now available
