On a new MacPro and cant figure this out. I thought I would simply check the little "enable unsupported cards" box in Preview options and at least be able to view projects that used ray-tracing... But that box is grayed out, the card is completely unsupported?!
Maybe it was too naive to assume that the newest Macs would ship with AE-compatible cards, but what on earth do I do now? If I need to open and work with a prior ray-traced project I have to use my older system?
Is there a workaround?
No... You need Nvidia cards, but it should not matter much unless you absolutely have to have extruded shapes you can't do in C4D LTE, which works better, renders faster, and has many more options.
Hardware-accelerated ray traced rendering in AE is ONLY possible with Nvidea GPUs. The AMD cards in Mac Pros are unlikely to ever be supported by Adobe for this feature.

Thanks Andrew. The thread is great, even if a bit too late for us
