Adobe Flash Player download

There seems to be no way I can load flash player onto my computer - a new miniMac running OS 10.9.2.

Is there fault with the software?

The download works but the installation stops after the initialisation window - no amount of trying can get past that.

Since many software packages use this player, the issue is quite serious for me.
