Stop action not working, (and other errors) please help!

    Patrick Mustain

      Hi all,

this is my first attempt at an interactive graphic with flash professional.

Working on a Mac (OS 10.8.5), Flash Proefessional CC.

I've created 6 frames, and I'm ready to start animating. I want users to be able to click on one of the 5 buttons in the first frame, which will take them to a corresponding frame that contains a bunch of buttons that link to external websites. At each of those frames there will also be a button that returns users to the first frame.

      This should be super-simple.

The problem is from the very get go, I can't even get the stop command to work [ stop(); ] so when I test (cmd enter), it just continually loops through the 6 frames.

I did see one forum in which someone mentioned that if there is an error flash will just ignore all the script and cycle through the frames. That seems really wierd to me that Flash would just ignore everything if there is a single error in the script. Is that indeed the case?

I did get some errors, but looking around on other forums did not help me figure out what they meant.

      Here's what came up:

Text support is limited. It is generally recommended to include text as HTML elements (see DOMElement). (125)

Only circular (not oval) radial gradients are supported.

Frame numbers in EaselJS start at 0 instead of 1. For example, this affects gotoAndStop and gotoAndPlay calls. (3)

Content with both Bitmaps and Buttons may generate local security errors in some browsers if run from the local file system.

So will I not be able to do anything as long as any of these erros arise? If that's the case, other than googling through a bunch of forums that may or may not explain things in language I can understand, does Adobe provide a resource to help users address specific errors? Other than the gradient, I have no idea what any of these means, and looking thorugh the forums did not help.

What I'm trying to do should be really simple, but this is giving me a lot of trouble. I've gone through a bunch of Lynda tutorials, Youtube tutorials and even Adobe tutorials and I thought I was ready to start adding actions, but obviously I'm missing something fundamental. Please help me out!

      Cheers!

      Patrick

none of those are errors.  they are all warnings to give you info in case you notice problems.

anyway, save your fla and reopen.  test.  any problem?

if the same as above, publish your swf and html and open the html in a browser.  any problem?

if yes, upload your fla to a file server and post a link.

            Thanks for responding!

FYI, when I reopened the file, the first thing that came up was the output window dispaying these:

"The 'Flash.createNewTemplateList' JS API is not supported for HTML5 Canvas.

            A JavaScript error occurred.

Error:  The 'Flash.createNewTemplateList' JS API is not supported for HTML5 Canvas.

            A JavaScript error occurred.

            ReferenceError: templateNameArray is not defined"

Those are errors, yes?  Do you think these have something to do with my prolbmes using the "stop" action?

I tested and same thing heppened. Published and same thing happened.

I've uploaded the fla to dropbox, here's the link:

            https://www.dropbox.com/s/mbz6mm4or2n1igs/advocacy-tools%20copy1.fla

            Again, thanks for the help.

oops, you're creating an html5 document.  i missed that.

              try:

              this.stop();

Ok, Now I just get a blank white frame.

What's the alternative besides an html5 doc, and do you recommend publishing something else?

                  I have the same output:

The 'Flash.createNewTemplateList' JS API is not supported for HTML5 Canvas.

                  A JavaScript error occurred.

Error:  The 'Flash.createNewTemplateList' JS API is not supported for HTML5 Canvas.

                  A JavaScript error occurred.

                  ReferenceError: templateNameArray is not defined

But I haven't added any code whatsoever. I'd converted an AS3 style file I built in Flash CC to canvas, then tried to publish.

These were the warnings I generated (the original file had filters):

Warnings generated while copying/importing in 0159-AS2-canvas.fla:

                  * Bevel filter is not supported in HTML5 Canvas document, and has been removed in an instance of Movieclip box-back.

                  * LineType is not supported in HTML5 Canvas document, and has been converted to MultiLineNoWrap in an instance of Text.

                  * Quality, Angle, Distance, Knockout, Inner Shadow and Hide object of DropShadow Filter is not supported in HTML5 Canvas document, and has been removed in an instance of Movieclip box-mid.

                  * Quality, Angle, Distance, Knockout, Inner Shadow and Hide object of DropShadow Filter is not supported in HTML5 Canvas document, and has been removed in an instance of Text.

                  * Sync type is not supported in HTML5 Canvas document, and has been converted to Event.

I'm not sure where to look for the "event" that it generated.

Also, nothing at all is outputted (no js file--Flash CC crashes and hangs--and I get the output error (warning?) when I open it back up.)

I made an animation from scratch, and everything was publishing out just fine until I added a sound file with a really long name -- then I got the white screen. I removed it, shortened it, reimported it and viola... I had imagery again--and sound! Yay.  (I downloaded your file. Just shortening the library names didn't do the trick.)
