How do I move from PSE 12 to Lightroom 5?

    junior166 Community Member

I already setup my LR 5  to open PSE 12, but how do I do it from PSE 12 to LR 5? I only found to import a PSE catalog. I just want to go straight to LR 5. I like to work in Photoshop before going to Lightroom.

You cannot do any work with for photo files unless they have been imported into the Lightroom Catalog. Photoshop workflow procedures are different than Lightroom. (Despite the name it carries "Adobe Photoshop Lightroom" it does not function like Photoshop).

Save the file and then do the regular import routine using Add. But unless the saved file is in 16 bits, I can't think of a reason for this workflow. The primary advantage that LR has over PSE is that all its editing is done to linear data in high bit depth - feed it an 8 bit, gamma corrected image and there is very little LR can do that can't be done as well or better in PSE.

Thanks a mill for the quick reply. I wasn't planning on doing light adjustments in photoshop just fixing composition and some other fixes, I will do all the color and light work in LR 5. Just somethings I need to get used to in LR 5 that I'm already used to doing in PSE. I understand that is sounds backwards.

Lightroom is different from Photoshop and Photoshop elements.

What Lightroom is. The main functions of Lightroom is that of, 1. A file manager for files from digital cameras. 2. Processing RAW files from digital cameras. 3. There are other ancilitory functions, sharing pictures on the web, slide show, printing etc.

In essence it provides an alternative to the Library file handling and the ACR Plugin functions available in Photoshop Elements.

Its best to use Lightroom to provide the front end processes of managing and processing your files and then if necessary use the advanced pixel editing and file altering functions available in Photoshop.
