From the Premiere Elements Information FAQ http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1042180

•What version of Premiere Elements? Include the minor version number (e.g., Premiere Elements 9 with the 9.0.1 update).

•What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.6.8"---not just "Mac".

•Have you installed any recent program or OS updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.)

•What kind(s) of image file(s)? When talking about camera raw files, include the model of camera.

•If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)?

•What were you doing when the problem occurred?

•What other software are you running?

•Tell us about your computer hardware. How much RAM is installed?  How much free space is on your system (C:) drive?

•Has this ever worked before?  If so, do you recall any changes you made to Premiere Elements, such as adding Plug-ins, brushes, etc.?  Did you make any changes to your system, such as updating hardware, printers or drivers; or installing/uninstalling any programs?

          And some other questions...

•What are you editing, and does your video have a red line over it BEFORE you do any work?

•Have you viewed the tutorial links at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1275830 page?

•Which version of Quicktime do you have installed?

I remember that you are using Premiere Elements 12, but I do not recall what computer operating system it is running on. So, for now, I will assume Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.

I suspect the answers will be in your details of how you are trying to get this video "downloaded onto your Timeline".

            a. Add Media/then what do you select?

            b. What are the properties of this video that you want to use? Have you used this type of video successfully before in any of your Premiere Elements projects?

I would suggest that we start here before we go through the usual overview drill details of computer, Premiere Elements, and media.

            Thanks.

Hi ATR.... thank you once again for coming to my rescue.

              I have windows 7.

This dvd came from a photography store where I had a VHS tape of family events put on digital.

For some reason the last 50% of the video drops onto my timeline as a file called 'VTS_01_2'. The whole video seems to be on file as VIDEO_TS.VOB . When I try to bring it onto the timeline I get this message 'The importer reported a generic error'. and I am unable to download it.

The video is of our wedding and some other family film dating from the 60's and 80's. The whole disc is about 1 hour 30 minutes long. When I brought it onto the computer from the disc on two different occasions, it gave me a whole version and then one that included only the 37 minutes. The 37 minutes one will go on the timeline.

I would also  like to do some editing once it is on the timeline.

I have not used this before . All my previous efforts have come off of memory sticks ie. from my camera.

When I did the original download from the dvd I did it by going 'add media' then clicking on 'Videos From Flip or Camera'.

              Thanks for your interest ATR.

Quick question please: when you play that DVD-Video on a set-top player, hooked to a TV, do you see any form of Menu, even a very simple one?

                Good luck,

You do not want to be importing the VIDEO_TS.VOB into Premiere Elements project.

The video files that you want should have names such as VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_02_1. and the like.

If you have your VOBs on a DVD disc and are using Premiere Elements 12, you should be placing your DVD in the burner tray, and then selecting Add Media/"DVD Camera and Computer Drive"/Video Importer.

There can be problems after you do the first DVD disc (if you have more than 1) in the Video Importer. All the video VOBs will have the same name. So, after the first run and a Video Importer Save In to Video, you will end up with a "already imported" error. That is because you are sending new files to the same place as the old and there is a duplication of file names.

So you need to plan ahead with folders in Videos (if that is the set for Video Importer Save In) to avoid the situation described.

Pending further information, it sounds like you are trying to import a VIDEO_TS.VOB into the project.

This is what I get when I try to import the VIDEO_TS.VOB into Premiere Elements 12 with the Add Media/"DVD Camera and Computer Drive"/Video Importer

I deleted the VIDEO_TS.VOB from the video importer then I followed your instructions and it worked. My video file in the project is VTS_01_1.VOB. I have downloaded it on the timeline. Thank you again ATR.

Now I will try to delete unwanted clips from the video. Wish me luck !

There is a simple one...a blue screen comes up showing  a picture from the video in the first menu scene, all the rest are empty.

I solved my problem by deleting the VIDEO_TS.VOB from the video file. Ehen I went through the instructions from ATR this time it worked. My file is now VTS_01_1.VOB . Wish me luck as I try to delete unwanted parts from the video.

I hope you are still there ATR.  Now I have a problem with editing. The timeline does not show individual frames. It is a solid green image from the beginning to the end. There is an orange line that runs along the top of the timeline video and one on the bottom. How do I delete unwanted parts from this video when there are no individual clips to look at ?

Me again ATR . I think I have worked it out myself. I have gone into Quick View. There is a solid blue line from beginning to end . I click the scissors on the current time indicator in two places that I want to delete. Right click and delete and close gap.

Please clarify...you got your VOBs into the Video Importer...put a check mark next to the wanted VOB...put a check mark next to Add to Timeline...clicked on Get Media. that puts the VOB in Project Assets and puts it on the Timeline also.

                            a. Is the VOB in Project Assets a green thumbnail?

                            b. Is the VOB on Video 1 green thumbnails throughout its duration?

It might be best to post a screenshot of what this situation looks like.

                            But, generally speak,

                            a. You can move the Timeline Indicator to a postion to be cutted on a selected clip and then click on the scissors tab hanging off the stem of the Timeline Indicator. After two such cuts, right clip your segment, and select Delete OR Delete and Close Gap.

                            b. Just right click the whole clip and select Delete.

                            c. If you want to get rid of just video, right click the file and select Delete Video. If you want to get rid of just audio, right click the file and select Delete Audio.

Please review the above and then we can decide what next.

                            Thanks.

                            ATR

Depending on what is above and below Timeline content, you could run into problem with the Delete and Close Gap for that content, but we will leave that until later and if necessary.
