The activation server for CS2 and earlier products was permanently shut down by Adobe in 2012.
You must now download a fresh new, non-activation version of the software from Adobe. Install it then use the new serial number provided at that link. Your existing serial number will no longer work.
Thanks for your quick responce.
I was able to install Photoshop CS2 without any problem.
One minute we are discussing pre-CS2 versions, and the next minute along comes this thread where a CS owner was given access to the special CS2 dowload and serial number. So I shall be happy to share the CS2 link with earlier version owners from now on.
There does seem to be a bit of confusion, or at least questions, regarding Ps CS and the CS2 "special version."
Hope that we can get an "official Adobe response," to clarify the CS vs CS2 question.
I've already shared my personal feelings, and the little that I *know* on this matter, plus what I hope that Adobe's stance is - but that might be 100% wrong, and unfulfilled.
We shall see, or at least I *hope* that we'll see.
More later - I hope...
PS - Do I win the Mega-Millions Jackpot, for having used the word "hope" so many times in one post????
CS and CS2 Windows were the first versions using an activation server.
Adobe retired the servers, disabling the use for legit CS owners as well as CS2 owners. CS was that "earlier product."
Versions 3.0-7.0 were not using activation. So if you still have those fossils in your collection, they still work depending on your OS and HDD space.
Activation did not start for the Mac version until CS2, so it's not an issue with them.
(And even less since any PPC support was dropped with MacOS 10.7)
