We're running a couple of 2010 Mac Pro's at work. They've been good workhorses but I'm looking into a mid-life upgrade to give them some extra pep. Current specs are:
A system SSD is the obvious place to start the update, so I'm looking at a 480/500GB Crucial or Samsung SSD. The other obvious bottleneck is the GPU. The 5770 was a great card in its time (I'm still running one in my PC at home) but struggles somewhat now in Premiere. A local Mac store suggested a Quadro 4000 is the only option for about AUD$850 but there must be alternatives. Can anyone recommend any cards that would a) be compatible with a 2010 gen Mac Pro and b) play nicely with Premiere/AE?
I am happily running a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 in my 2008 Dual Quad Core Mac Pro w/10.8.5
Purchased on eBay, just the base card (no extra cores or memory)
If you go the eBay route make sure it's Mac compatible
