I took a look at the DisplacementMapFilter, PerlinNoise Filter and the BitmapData class and I'm somewhat lost.
It seems, if I'm reading the docs correctly, that the PerlinNoise filter can't be used to create a precise distortion effect like what I'm looking for, which is a static effect of a symmetrical distortion, like a "bulge" or a "squeeze" effect on a MC. And I don't see any way to apply a "distorting" effect using the displacmentMapFilter, unless I'm not understanding it (which is highly probable).
What I really want is to be able to apply the envelope controls to a MC programmatically...I don't need to replicate what the IDE does, with the bezier arms dynamically controlling the distortion. all i want to do is take a fixed distortion setting and apply it to an MC.
Is that possible? Or is it possible to take fixed bitmap in the desired "distorted" shape and map an MC or image to it?
Did you see this one? http://www.senocular.com/flash/source.php?id=0.172
There is no reason the distortion has to be interactive, it just makes a better demo that way. Just take the effect and apply it.
yeah...i dig, but it doesn't look like it's going to do what I need it to do. I don't see how I can create the types of distortions I need.
