Audio from mp4 fails to import

Audio disappears from my .mp4 files in Premiere Elements 12. Howeverm it worked flawlessly in Premiere Pro CC on the same computer.

Below you will find the information from MediaInfo.

I am VERY surprised that your video worked in PProCC, since variable frame rate video is not supported

Adobe/Jive have a BAD title for the SEARCH THIS FORUM function

Go back to http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere_elements or http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere

And, in the area just under Ask a Question, type in

          variable frame rate

You may now read previous discussions on this subject... be sure to click the See More Results at the bottom of the initial, short list if the initial list does not answer your question

Hmm interesting, the software I used to record it is quite widely used so I assumed its encoding would be somewhat regular. The video works in all software (windows movie maker, PE12, PProCC) but audio has only worked in PProCC. The frame rate should be 30 anyways, I do not know why the mode is set to variable.

I searched for variable frame rate and found nothing in regards to my problem.

Please clarify what is happening with the audio...

              a. If you are using Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets,  and drag the AVCHD.mp4 from there to the Timeline Video 1/Audio 1, you do not see an audio file on Audio 1 or you do not hear audio from Audio 1 at playback?

Variable frame rate does not automatically spell Premiere Elements failure. But, constant frame rate may be needed to over some audio out of sync issues. But from what you describe, you have no audio that has the opportunity to be out of sync.

In the likelihood that the .mp3 audio in the AVCHD.mp4 file may be causing the problem, let us look at converting the file in HandBrake and see what happens with a constant frame rate of 30 frames per second AVCHD.mp4 but with AAC audio.

              a. Download and install the free HandBrake program.

              b. In the HandBrake program

              Source Open File

              I set for seconds

Destination..Browse to desktop and name your ..MP4 Container

Leave the Picture Tab settings as is for now

              Go to the Video Tab

              Video Codec: H.264 (x264)

              Framerate (FPS): 30

              dot Constant  Framerate

Hit Start and wait until you see Queue Finished at bottom left progress display.

Please let us know the outcome and then we can weigh our options moving forward with the troubleshooting.

              Thanks for your helpful information.

Sorry for unclear post. I see no audio track on Audio 1 at all, as you assumed.

I followed your instructions, and the outputs audio seems to work in PE12.However, I'd rather find some other way of solving this problem than converting all my files, I have over 150 files alltogether that Iwish to use in PE12.

edit: I set up a queue to convert all my files, only seems to take around 20 minutes.. Thanks for the advice! But if you have any other ideas on how to fix the problem I'd love to hear them for future use!

Thanks for the follow up news that the conversion route was successful in allowing you to work with the convert in a Premiere Elements project.

Although I will think about it some more, the only alternative to conversion that I can see is producing a file with different properties.

AVCHD as video codec should be fine with the .mp4 container format. But, if you are not getting an audio presence in Premiere Elements, it may be the .mp3 audio in the .mp4 container that is creating the incompatibility issue. Not sure. The variable frame can be problematic, but I am not  seeing that as the sole problem for this syndrome.

What are the chances of you producing an AVCHD AAC.mp4. instead of the AVCHD MP3.mp4?

                    AVCHD AAC.mp4 fixed the problem!

I will use it from now on, thanks a lot for the help

                      Wonderful news. Great job.

Glad you had the opportunity to use the AVCHD AAC.mp4.

                      Best wishes
