What sort of text box are you using? I tried that same code and it
works on both #text and #field members
It will throw an error (though a different one than you mentioned) if
you use a #flashComponent textInput member.
Hi Mike, thanks for replying. I'm just using a standard field member. I drew the field box on the stage and pasted some text into it. When it didn't work I made another and typed in the ten words-- same error.
Think I'll try rebooting the computer and creating a new .dir project to see if maybe it's just a fluke.
Are you using Dir 8.5 or MX?
I'm using MX2004.
If you have MX or lower I believe there are two problems with the field member (as opposed to a text member which should work with the posted syntax).
Problem 1 is that the fields don't have a color property on an individual chunk.
You can however use the older foreColor.
Problem 2 is that the fields require verbose syntax when referring to chunks.
set the foreColor of word 2 of member "test" to 128
