you must have a hitTest activated for the movieclip because mouse events are intercepted by the top most object with handlers.
No hittest on any objects... cant figger it out.
I fink i know whats going on... i am checking for mouseup event on the movieclip, and I thought this would only be triggered if the mouseup wa sover the movieclip, but it is being detected anywhere on stage (including over buttons). Is there any way just to detect the mouseup when done OVER the movieclip - pref without enclosing the mc in a button and rewriting my code or other arcane practices?
I'll never get Flash......
mouseUp and mouseDown are global events (in as2) and triggered no matter the location of the mouse (as long as it's over the stage).
to trigger for a particular movieclip or button, use onRelease.
however, the topmost object will intercept mouse events so (if your movieclip is not the topmost object that receives mouse events) you may need to use a mouseUp and a hitTest() to detect if the mouseUp occurred while over your movieclip.
Thanx Kglad - thass dunnit :-) maybe one day I'll feel comfy with actinscript, but right now i'm finding it hard work.....
i know the feeling. it wasn't that long ago for as2 that i had to look everything up to get the syntax correct and i'm just starting to feel good about as3.
