Number on New Brush Creation ?

When creating a brush and there is a small number in the corner of the brush, whether that number is 4,8,16 etc. What does that number respresent ?

Do you mean the number below the brush? If you do it's the width in pixels. I can't think of another numbers.
A screen grab would help if you mean something else

Numbers in the corner represent bit depth - if you create a brush from 16 bit/channel or 32 bit/channel images.
