IF you are on Windows, this past week was patch week from Microsoft... and patches "sometimes" do things to Windows that make a graphics adapter driver go out of date
What is your exact brand/model graphics adapter (ATI or nVidia or ???)
What is your exact graphics adapter driver version?
Have you gone to the vendor web site to check for a newer driver?
For Windows, do NOT rely on Windows Update to have current driver information
-you need to go direct to the vendor web site and check updates for yourself

no, it's Mac OSX Mavericks. All drivers and Premiere Elements are up to date. I didn't change anything from yesterday to today.

Let us try deleting the Premiere Elements 12 Mac settings file. The settings file is named
Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs
I am 99.9999% certain that you should find it in Mac...
User/User Name/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Premiere Elements/12.0
and in the 12.0 Folder should be the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete.
