    PE9 Workspace

    KrashBandicoot

Help! My Preimere Elements 9 Workspace is just a gray screen when I start a new project or try to open an existing one. I let my friend use it and when I got it back to screen was just gray. The options at the top are available to scroll over but you cant select any of the options because they are grayed out. Therefore I can not select the restore workspace button. I'm wondering if there is a way I can reset the program. I can not reinstall it because I do not have the disk with me.

For now I will assume that you have your Premiere Elements 9 on Window 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit. If otherwise, then please let me know and I will post the relevant information. For now,

Delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file.

          Local Disk C

          Users

          Owner

          AppData

          Roaming

          Adobe

          Premiere Elements

          9.0

and in the 9.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then delete the whole 9.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Make sure to be working with Folder Options Show Hidden Files, Folders, Drives active so that you can see the path cited.

Also, try opening the program by double clicking the Adobe Premiere Elements.exe file found

          Local Disk C

          Program Files (x86)

          Adobe

          Premiere Elements 9

and in the Premiere Elements 9 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements.exe file that you double click to get the program to open, bypassing the Welcome Screen.

We will be watching for your results.

          Thanks.

Thank you so much for your help. I did both things you suggested and it is still not opening to workspace. Well, the workspace opens but the screen just stays gray except for the options at the top. Those you can scroll over but cant select any of the options. And I am using Premiere Elements 9 on a Windows 7.

              Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 Windows 7 64 bit

At this point, we should consider

              a. Deactivate the program from an open project, Help Menu/Deactivate

              b. Uninstall (Control Panel route)

              c. ccleaner run through

              https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

              d. Reinstall (either with your installation files, disc, or installation tryout files into which we can insert the purchased serial number.)

              e. Install the Premiere Elements 9.0.1 Update

Please review and consider the above and then we can decide what next.

Hi. Thank you for your help. If I do options a or b, it will erase the program from my computer right? How do I do option e?

a and b will remove Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 from your computer.

                  For e, you can

                  a. After 9 is installed, open a project and use Help Menu/Updates to get download for the 9.0.1 Update installation

                  or

                  b. After 9 is installed, close 9 and download and install the 9.0.1 Update from Adobe's online link

                  http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4929

Do not forget the ccleaner for regular and registry cleaner to get at leftovers from incomplete uninstalls or installs.

We will be watching for your results and thinking positive thoughts.

The solution could be disabling your antivirus software. I had the exact same problem as you, but was able to solve it by turning off McAfee. Check out the following link:

plqaz has brought up the matter of MacAfee antivirus conflicts with Premiere Elements (any version possible). But, recently there seems to be more than usual. Problem thought to be due to a recent McAfee update.

However, I did go there with my questioning since you appeared to have a working system with no indication of a antivirus change, just a previously working computer returned to you non working.

But, please rule in or out the possibility of a McAfee cause for your issue before beginning the troubleshooting that we have been discussing.

                      Thanks.
