    Previewing Video

    Gert2011

      First time poster here.

I just opened Premiere Elements today for the 1st time and have worked with it for almost 4 hours.  I can't get to preview the video on the screen.  It plays with sound but no video.  If I click on the display screen and the time pointer thing, it shows the frame that the time pointer is on and then if I move the time pointer left or right, the frames move, but if I push play, the time pointer moves and the sound goes but whatever frame was on the screen just stays there.

Any ideas for this newby?  Thanks in advance.

Using Elements 10, Dell 8500 Intel i7 desktop with 12 GB ram, Windows 8.1.

P.S.  If I save the file to a MPEG, it plays properly.

Thanks for the quick replay John.

Yes, I have the NVidia GT 620.  It has version 326.60 which I can't find on the list.

            I see a 326.80 released Aug 2013.

Maybe the first thing I should do is update it.???

I'm going to bed, will check back in the morning.

Thanks again for taking your time to reply.

Read the rollback link again... you probably do not want an UP-date to the nVidia driver, you may want a DOWN-date to an earlier version... I'm not sure exactly which driver version you should use, but there is a LOT of information in the rollback link

Thanks again John for your time and help.

Attached is a Word docx that shows a screen shot of my current driver and the available drivers shown from your link.

Mine is 326.60 from 8/9/13 and the only ones that are slightly older are beta drivers from 7/18/13 (326.19) and 7/30/13 (326.41) and mine doesn't show on the list.

Would you go ahead and try a Beta driver that is 27 days older than the one I have?

I see your point. Since you are dealing with Windows 8.1 64 bit, your choices are not the same as for Window 7 64 bit. Unless we get to a last resort situation, I would leave 326.80 released Aug 2013.

Is this a "it worked before but not now" or "it never worked before" issue?

I would focus on the properties of these source media that are imported with flawed video display.

What is the video compression and what is the file extension? What is the brand/model/settings for the camera that recorded these videos?

Cause you fill in the before and after details of the video...

before...........................after "mpeg" what compression what "savings" settings

                  Thanks.

                    Hi ATR.

Current release that I have is 326.60 and it doesn't show on Adobe's list.

Sunday was the first time I've used Premiere 10 that came with my computer from Dell/Costco so I'm going to have to say it has always not worked.???

My video is from my new Nikon 3200 filmed at 1280x720 59 fps.  File extension is .mov.  I don't know how to tell what the compression was/is.

I saved my completed project at 1280x720 59 fps and it shows as a mpeg in the thumbnails but under properties is says .mpg and it plays properly.

I hope I've understood and answered all your questions, if not, please ask again.

                    I appreciate the help.

PS, I called Costco Concierge Services today and they played with me a little, then gave me Adobe's number and after waiting on hold for ever, I talked to a lady with no help, she wanted my license number that I couldn't find.  I asked her the number I could call back to and she gave me a number of some dentist.  Ran Belarc Advisor and found the license, called back the original number that Costco had given me and got a guy that got all my info, then asked what my issues were and after a couple of minutes of discussion he says that they don't support PE10.  (then why didn't you tell me that before you asked what my issues were with PE10)

Just though of something, if my video that I took with my camera is bad/wrong, couldn't we troubleshoot that by sending it to someone who has their PE10 working correctly and see if it works for them?

                    Thanks again.

Thanks for the information. Very helpful.

For now, leave the NVIDIA GeForce GT 620 as is with the August 2013 driver.

                      Plan

                      1. Verify that you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer (Windows 8.1 64 bit).

                      2. Your video appears to be AVCHD.mov (1280 x 720 @ 59.94 progressive frames per second. In that case, set the project preset for

                      NTSC

                      AVCHD

                      AVCHD-LITE 720p60

Once the video gets imported into the Timeline view workspace, verify that there is no red line over the Timeline content. If you do see a red line there, then press the Enter key of the computer main keyboard and see if you get a "rendering of the Timeline" activity or just playback of the Timeline content in the Edit area monitor.

Would it be possible for you to post your problem video here as a download from a Dropbox link in your reply?

Did installation files or an installation disc come with your Premiere Elements 10? Do you have a purchased serial number for Premiere Elements 10 Windows?

Please review and consider and then we can decide what next.

Thank you for the follow ups.

                        Hi ATR.

                        Thanks again for the response.

OK, my quicktime player version is 7.7.5 (1680.95.13) and I tried to update and it said it was the current version or up to date.

So I tried NTSC, AVCHD, AVCHD-LITE 720p 60 and got the same results when I tried a new project with the same clips.

I would post a video on dropbox if I knew how.  I will work on learning how. (it is a video of a drag race car I filmed at 60 frames per second so I can diagnose what is happening on the start, frame by frame)

No, I don't have installation disks.  The Adobe Elements 10 and Premiere 10 were already preloaded on the computer.  I found the software licenses yesterday by using Belarc Advisor.

I think I've answered all your points.

If we get to the point where a "deactivation, uninstall, ccleaner run through, and reinstall" is indicated, then we can go there

                            Thanks ATR.

I forgot to answer the following question for you.

There is no red line that I can see.  When I press the keyboard enter, the file just played the sound and scrolled across the clip but the video stayed the same as the 1st frame.

                                  Good news and bad news.

The good news is that I looked at your AVCHD.movie sample (1280 x 720 @ 59.94 progressive frames per second) in Premiere Elements 10 installed on Windows 7 64 bit and Windows 8.1 64 bit. No problems.

And with project preset set at

                                  NTSC

                                  AVCHD

                                  AVCHD-LITE 720p60

there was no red line over the Timeline content.

The playback of the Timeline content was good for video (excellent) as well as audio (zoom sound of car).

We need to look in other than the video as the answer for your display issues.

Please consider the uninstall/ccleaner/reinstall routine suggested. But only if you have the purchased serial number and installation files/disc.

I do have the license number I found from running Belarc Advisor, but I have no disks.

According to the link John sent me, there were only two older drivers for Nvidia and both were Beta versions and the oldest was only 27 days older that what mine is which doesn't show on his link. http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us

Great job with the Dropbox sample.

                                    Good news and bad news.

The good news is that I looked at your AVCHD.movie sample (1280 x 720 @ 59.94 progressive frames per second) in Premiere Elements 10 installed on Windows 7 64 bit and Windows 8.1 64 bit. No problems.

there was no red line over the Timeline content.

The playback of the Timeline content was good for video (excellent) as well as audio (zoom sound of car).

From my point of view, I feel that there is no evidence to implicate the video format in any of the display issue.

Did you confirm that under Device Manager/Display Adapters/ there is only NVIDIA GeForce GT 620 shown?

The next step should probably be for you to contact NVIDIA customer service to find out if it would give you input on what driver version would be appropriate to use for your Windows 8.1 64 bit. For Windows 7 64 bit, the answer has typically been around March to May 2013. In case they do not mention it, remind them of the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA GeForce Roll Back documentation.

Do you feel comfortable trying to the uninstall/ccleaner run through/reinstall based on the hope

                                      a. that you have the correct valid serial number

                                      and

                                      b. that the Premiere Elements 10 tryout installation files from the website named will let you insert your purchased serial number in them to give you your own new Premiere Elements 10 installation.

Because of this pre-install situation, I do not want you to lose the program (even as it is) if there is some unexpected glitch in the plan.

Here is my chat with Nvidia.  Basically they want me to install the newest driver saying this video card is for gaming, not for graphics.

Goutham: Hi, my name is Goutham. How may I help you?

Merle Saunders: I have GeForce GT 620 with driver version 326.60 and have issues with Adobe Premiere 10 with the video not showing in preview.  This being a common problem with Nvidia and Premiere 10, the majority of the fixes I've read about is to go to an earlier driver version.  I can only find two older versions and they are both Beta and the oldest is only 27 days older than the version I have.  Any suggestions?

                                            Goutham: One moment please

Merle Saunders: Running windows 8.1 64 bit.

Goutham: NVIDIA chipset based graphics cards are categorized into two categories i.e. the GeForce Series of graphics card and the Quadro Series of graphics card.

The GeForce series of graphics cards are designed specifically for gaming purpose and it does support the general applications and Quadro series of graphics cards are designed for high-end software applications like AutoCAD and other 3D animation software.

Merle Saunders: So you are saying I have the wrong card?

Goutham: The GeForce based graphic card you are using is not one of the recommended cards to run this application, some of the GeForce GTX series can be used with it

                                            Merle Saunders: Not mine?

Goutham: The drivers made for the Quadro cards will work with all these applications and there would be no issues

Goutham: The Workload from these applications will be kind of huge load for the GeForce GT 620 card

Goutham: Could you please let us know if this is a brand new card

Merle Saunders: Came with Dell XPS 8500

                                            Goutham: Was this purchased recently

                                            Merle Saunders: Nov 2012

Goutham: Because if its within the first 30 days you will have an option to upgrade

                                            Goutham: Oh ok

Goutham: The GeForce GT series of cards are mid-ranged for home basic usage purpose and some application usage

Goutham: However, these applications may or may not work

Goutham: I will provide you with some step to try

Merle Saunders: Seems people using this type of card don't have this issue with Premiere 11 and 12, just versions 10.

Goutham: Check if this help- Again we cannot assure the functionality please know

Goutham: As said if you check with Adobe as well they recommend the GTX or the Quadro series of cards

Goutham: Let me check if I can find the same

                                            Goutham:  http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/tech-specs.html

Merle Saunders: This is for Pro, I running Adobe Premiere 10 Elements, the cheap version.

                                            Goutham: I understand, Merle

Goutham: Let me provide you with the steps to try

Merle Saunders: Do you have a driver version that is from around May of 2013 for this card?

Goutham: Also, do you get any specific error with the application

                                            Merle Saunders: No.

                                            Goutham: ok

Goutham: Open the NVIDIA control panel

                                                Hi ATR.

After much though, I'm thinking of trying the trial download but loading on my wife's laptop and see if it works properly there.

I just ordered PowerColor Go! Green AX5450 1GBK3-SH Radeon HD 5450 (Cedar) 1GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card for $9.99 from Newegg after the hassle of a $20 rebate.

I'm going to get away from Nvidia.

Thanks so much for all the time helping me out.

When did this Adobe ID and Password issue first present? A while back Adobe had most of use changing passwords because of an Adobe security issue. Are you using new Passwords or old ones? When was the last time your Adobe ID and Password worked for you?

These are old passwords.  It has been long enough that neither of us remember when we used it last.  I had my wife today register for a new account and it wants a URL where we share our pictures.  We don't have one.???  Ideas?

I have never heard of that before. Any chance you pressed yes to a promotion for the Adobe Revel? Now that photoshop.com and photoshop.com plus are gone, Adobe Revel is what is being marketed for photo sharing and the like. You do not need Adobe Revel to continue to use Premiere Elements.

OK, I went and downloaded the trial PE10 on my wife's laptop and it works perfectly.  Used my code.

Stopped trying to log in in PE10 and just went to the web site and no problem logging in for both of us.  When trying to log into PE10 where it says log in, always get the same error.

                                                          So all is well.

                                                            Thanks for the update.

Ever since photoshop.com and photoshop.com plus were discontinued, versions of Premiere Elements earlier than 11 no longer required signing in. So, ignore any signing in once you have installed the product with your serial number.

Another thing to be aware of, any of the photoshop.com plus offerings (templates and such) are no longer available even though you may see icons for them displayed. Many of these discontinued items are now offered by Adobe in the latest versions as part of the later versions.

Reports are sounding better and better. Best wishes for continuing progress.
