i'm having the same problem. it appears to be a flex bug in the latest version:
either converting the OTF to TTF or using Flash to embed the fonts seems to be the only solutions at present.
anyone know any more?
OTF Font embedding is not supported in Flex 2. It is a new feature of Flex 3.
The latest build can be found here : http://opensource.adobe.com/wiki/display/flexsdk/download+flex+3
If you are using the latest build, make sure to take the "Adobe Flex SDK", OTF font embedding is not part of the "Open Source Flex SDK"
Flex SDK Team
thanks for the advice Gaurav i've updated my sdk to the latest version, and now otf fonts are working as long as i'm in the Source window and not the Design window. (just as it is described in the flex bugs link above).
i didn't understand your paragraph beginning 'if you are using the latest build...make sure to take the...' - can you clarify this for me please?
I meant that on the download page ( http://opensource.adobe.com/wiki/display/flexsdk/download+flex+3) there are three zip files for one build (Adobe Flex SDK, Open Source Flex SDK, Adobe Add-ons).
So grab the zip for "Adobe Flex SDK" because zip for "Open Source Flex SDK" doesn't have the support for OTF fonts.
oh sure yes i grabbed the correct SDK thanks.
so just to clarify my problem, when in design view, i get the following errors:
exception during transcoding: Font for alias .... was not found at .....
unable to build font '...'
Unable to transcode ....otf
but if i replace the font with a ttf(or compile from source view), it all works fine.
this problem seems to be described here in Flex beta 3 bugs.
are you able to replicate this problem? if so, are you aware of a solution/better workaround?
Yes, I was able to replicate this issue. Sorry, I am not aware of any workaround for this - other than just using source view.
okay thanks for looking into this for me.
