Have you tried going to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Extension Manager CS4 (64 bit windows operating system)
or
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Extension Manager CS4 (32 bit windows operating system)
and double clicking on the Adobe Extension Manager CS4.exe to see if it runs?

angie_tianshi Apr 27, 2014 11:14 AM (in response to R_Kelly)Yes I am on Windows 7. Yes I have tried accessing CS4 extension manager in all the places I can find it including doing a search in the start dialogue. It will not open at all - I have tried 'Run as Administrator' - nothing, and I have tried 'Open' - nothing.

4. Re: CS4 Extension Manager
angie_tianshi Apr 27, 2014 11:32 AM (in response to R_Kelly)I don't know exactly which method you are suggesting I use to get to the program files. I have tried by using Windows explorer and I have tried by using Computer>C: drive> Programs 86> Adobe>Photoshop CS4> Extension Manager. I have tried to post a screen shot but I have been unsuccessful. When I click on the CS4 Extension Manager that expands to show everything in it and it includes the Pixel Bender files.

10. Re: CS4 Extension Manager
R_Kelly Apr 27, 2014 2:10 PM (in response to angie_tianshi)You must be missing some of the files
You might try reinstalling the cs4 extension manager from here and then installing the 2.1 patch from the same page.
Also. those files that have the .mxp extension shouldn't be in the cs4 extension manager folder

11. Re: CS4 Extension Manager
angie_tianshi Apr 28, 2014 12:18 AM (in response to R_Kelly)Thanks for that suggestion. My own feeling is that the file must have been corrupted. Before I do this I wonder if you think it might be better to uninstall CS4 completely and re-install? When I did the reinstall after the virus, I did not uninstall first.

12. Re: CS4 Extension Manager
R_Kelly Apr 28, 2014 2:08 AM (in response to angie_tianshi)That would probably be a good idea
If you want to get things right you should unistall both photoshop cs4 and photoshop cs6
Run the Creative Cloud Cleaner
http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html
Then reinstall starting with photoshop cs4
If you just unistall/reinstall cs4, that will probably mess up all your file associations and such

14. Re: CS4 Extension Manager
angie_tianshi Apr 28, 2014 8:07 AM (in response to angie_tianshi)I am now on my back up computer. I have uninstalled cs4 and cs6 on my Windows 7 machine and done a clean with Adobe creative Cloud cleaner. My first attempt to load CS4 was aborted because I had forgotten to disable AVG and the Windows Firewall and the 'set up was unable to continue.. So went back and disabled both security softwares and then started the set-up again for CS4 and it has now been 'Preparing to Install' for almost 2 hours with no sign of moving on. It has all the appearance of having hung. It would largely solve my problem if I could load CS4 on this computer and CS6 on the other. This one is a Windows 8.1 machine but has no disc drive so I am unable to load my copy of CS4 on it. Is there a download for CS4?
