What is the best project setting in Adobe PE 8 for Canon HF10 Camera?

    freedog69

I have a Canon HF10 camera and I am trying to import the video but can't seem to find a setting that does not require significant rendering before the file is even editted. I am currently using  NTSC > AVCHD-HD1080i30    Once I import a file I get the redline across the top of the timeline.  I have tried just about every preset the app offers.

My imported file says video is 1440 x 1080 BR 7300kbps FR 29 fs  audio is 256kbps sample rate 48k

      Thanks

      Chris

What is telling you that your video is 1440 x 1080 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second -

Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readouts for Editing Mode/Timebase/Frame Size/Pixel Aspect Ratio

          or

Properties from right clicking the file in Project Media and selecting Properties

If your video is 1440 x 1080 HD anamorphic 16:9, then your Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 project preset should be

          NTSC

          AVCHD

          HD 1080i30

and you should not be getting a red line over that content when you first drag it to the Timeline. However for every edit of that video, there will be the appearance of the red line with the render me implication to get the best possible preview.

Please let us know if you see anything in the above that is not the case.

          Thank you.

AT thank you for your quick reply.  That is the setting I am using in PE 8.0.  Here is the properties of the mts video file  that I have copied from my camera to my pc.  Using the preset you instructed I get a redline as soon as I bring it into the timeline.

Thanks for the supplemental and confirming data. Puzzlement why you are getting that red line over the Timeline content when it is first dragged to the Timeline. Any chance you could post a small sample of this video as a Dropbox link in a reply here.

But in the meanwhile, please important this file into a new project with the project preset set at

              NTSC

              Hard Disk, Flash Memory Camcorder

              HD1080i30

and determine if you still get the red line over the content when it is first dragged to the Timeline.

When you do get this red line on the first video drag to the Timeline, do you get an acceptable playback of the content in the Edit area monitor?

              More later.

              Thanks.

I have created a test file that you can download here- https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/7354008/test.mts

When I try to import this same test file I get the redline over the timeline.  The playback is jerky for the most part if I don't render.

                  Thanks for the sample, test.mts.

It will not open in Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 or Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 7 64 bit.

I have renamed the file extension from mts to .m2ts, .mpg, and .mp4. That did not help.

Just looking at the MediaInfo properties readout is telling me why you are getting a red line over the Timeline content when you are able to import the file into Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 with the project preset

                  NTSC

                  AVCHD

                  HD1080i30

Your file has a frame rate of 59.94 interlaced frames per second. There is no project preset for 1440 x 1080 HD anamorphic 16:9 @ 59.94 interlaced frames per second. So, even if you get the file to import, it will have a red line over its content.

But, the MediaInfo properties readout points to something that needs clarification. And, the clarification may lead to answers to the overall issues here. The frame rate is shown as 59.94 frames per second. And, under that, it says original frame rate 29.97 frames per second. When and how did the frame rate of that video get changed?

Please review and consider. If you have an alternative test.mts for me to check out, please do not hesitate to send it.

                  Thanks.

                    Hello AT-

I took the original file that was MTS and used avidemux to trim it down to a suitable size to UL.  In that app all I did was trimed the video and saved it.  Is there another way I can trim down the video length without changing any properties?  I remade a new test clip here is the properties of test3.mts

I am in the process of downloading the test3.mts. I will put that through the tests. But, I have misgivings since the video codec in this one is DviX which is not a preferred video codec for Premiere Elements. That XviD is worse case.

                      Back soon with latest results.

This latest sample (DviX.mts) would not import into Premiere Elements 12 on my computer (Windows 7 Professional SP1 64 bit).

Do you have any AVCHD.mts 1440 x 1080 HD anamorphic 16:9 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second that you can send?

If you have the Canon HF10 and you have it set to record to 1440 x 1080 HD anamorphic 16:9 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second, what is it recording to

                              a. SD or SDHC memory card or built in camera memory?

How are you getting that video into the computer and then into Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1?

                              a. Are you letting the camera software work on the file first and then you transfer the video to the computer. And, then get the video into Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 with Get Media/Files and Folders.

                              b. Some other variation?

If you have a camera software helping, I am wondering if the camera software is set to alter the original video properties of AVCHD.mts to something else?

Assuming that you are importing the video into the computer/Premiere Elements without any help from a Canon bundled in software, are you

                              a. going camera with memory inside, USB connection to computer, and then import into Premiere Elements using Get Media/Files and Folders after you set the project preset to NTSC AVCHD HD1080i30

                              or

Get Media/"AVCHD or other hard disk/memory camcorder"/"Adobe Premiere Elements - Media Downloader" after you set the project preset to NTSC AVCHD HD1080i30.

If you go just from Camera to computer, what file extension does the file have, .mts or something else?

If you have a 1440 x 1080 HD anamorphic 16:9 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second importing into Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 and you set the project preset for NTSC AVCHD HD1080i30, then there should not be seeing a red line over that Timeline content. If you are, there is something subtle in that file that is causing the red line indicator.

If you are able to import that video into Premiere Elements, right click the file in Project Media, and select Interpret Footage, what is shown in the Frame Rate section of Interpret Footage...29.97 frames per second or something else?

When all is said and done, if we cannot find an answer to the why red line, then I would ask how does the video export with or without the red line over the Timeline content?

                              More later.

                              Thanks.
