1. Re: New Forum Guide ?
John Waller May 3, 2014 2:43 AM (in response to Trevor Dennis)Is there an Adobe Community forum specifically for forum layout and use issues?
Right here Forum comments
There's so much about this new "upgrade" which seems to have gone backwards. and made it less useable
e.g. latest poster in each thread has gone, link to jump to latest post has disappeared.

2. Re: New Forum Guide ?
Trevor Dennis May 3, 2014 4:20 AM (in response to John Waller)Thanks John, but there is little information there, just more frustrated people. Meanwhile this forum has come back on line with a ridiculous number of un-moderated duplicate posts, and an idiot responder, so I'm out of here until it settles down. This is so unprofessional it is shameful.
As Bill likes to say, good luck. We were never in such need of it!

3. Re: New Forum Guide ?
JJMack May 3, 2014 6:53 AM (in response to Trevor Dennis)I did not think it would be possible to have a poorer forum editor then the old jive editor. Now the add image icon is grayed out video is still possible however it looks like it still only supports some video sites not one own site. On the positive side the god awful integration of most user unfriendly spellchecker no longer interferes with the spell checker I use in Chrome. So my appends in the future may contain fewer typos. I can not type spellcheckers only catch typos when they make bad words they do not catch typos that create valid words like when your one key off and type nor not not.
Navigation seem harder too. Its different any way and change is not always easy. Perhaps I'll find a way. I liked the way I could click the discussions in the old forum format pull-@down and see the threads I was appending in. Now clicking discussion in the pull-down starts a thread.
The only way I have been able to include an image in an append it to upload it to my web server then add an image tag to my append. Since the picture icon is still in editor but grayed out perhaps some day it will become active ....
Gone too seems the be the this append has been edited check box.

Mike M May 3, 2014 8:31 AM (in response to JJMack)JJ,
I'm with you on the images. I use screenshots to save me hours of typing in replies. The inability to add them is going to mean I don't reply to a lot of things I used to.
Navigation is awful too.
I've been through the help and it's apparent that this new format is designed for people on phones. EVERYTHING references keyboard apps and sidebars for phones. That would make sense if ALL Adobe made was software for phones... But these are DESKTOP apps. Even Flash Player is no longer available for Phones, so WHY build a forum specifically for people using devices that have NO ABILITY to access or use the software being troubleshot?
I guess that's the next step for CC?

Noel Carboni May 3, 2014 8:47 AM (in response to Mike M)It's not all bad. I now have a full editor interface on an iPad, so for example I can make words bold.
But yeah, it needs the ability to upload images or it's completely useless.

6. Re: New Forum Guide ?
JJMack May 3, 2014 8:53 AM (in response to Mike M)I can not type and the guide line still state include screen shots. So far the only good thing I see is Chrome spellchecker is no longer disable on this site.
Supply pertinent information for quicker answers
The more information you supply about your situation, the better equipped other community members will be to answer. Consider including the following in your question:
- Adobe product and version number
- Operating system and version number
- The full text of any error message(s)
- What you were doing when the problem occurred
- Screenshots of the problem
- Computer hardware, such as CPU; GPU; amount of RAM; etc.

JJMack May 3, 2014 9:13 AM (in response to Noel Carboni)it's completely useless.
-Noel
Every discussion filter returns no match only no filter shows discussion. I can not filter forum for thread I'm participating in. If I go to my profile it only shows a few of the new ones. Editor check message edited by gone. Quote previous append now need to be done with copy paste. So I'll quote you out of context.

Noel Carboni May 3, 2014 9:06 AM (in response to Noel Carboni)Is there a way to jump to the last post in a thread from the Discussions view? I've not found it yet.

csuebele May 3, 2014 9:17 AM (in response to Trevor Dennis)Oh, this is bad without screen shots! Not only do I rely on them heavily to explain things, but we need them to know what the OP is talking about most of the time.

Mike M May 3, 2014 11:28 AM (in response to Noel Carboni)Something else I'm REALLY, REALLY, REALLY ticked off about.
My PMs are ALL GONE.
And they wiped out nearly ALL of my my bookmarks.
This is like starting over.
I'm surprised they didn't just put EVERYONE back at 0 posts and 0 points.

JJMack May 3, 2014 11:36 AM (in response to Mike M)I think the new Inbox replaces the old PM. I have now turned off the inbox stuff for my account.

But that's what they should do! Just get rid of this whole "status" silliness once and for all. Points, MVPs, the lot. Really, who needs it? Does anyone seriously believe that's why people answer questions?
This whole business of "status markers" has irritated me from the start. It gets in the way of a free exchange of knowledge and ideas.

Yep, I hear you. I lost all my PMs as well. This is a bad update - I do not mind the new layout that much, but loss of good functionality and content is never a good thing.
Ah well, Jive is pretty bad as it is. I may be around a lot less now.

But that's why I answer questions! So I can climb above people and feel their squishy faces as I step on them!
Seriously, though, I find nothing wrong with it. It just provides incentive and nothing more.

19. Re: New Forum Guide ?
Trevor Dennis May 3, 2014 6:40 PM (in response to Warunicorn)The new white background has just tripped me up in the Guides thread. I used to rely on the grey forum background to delineate images from the forum BG, but images with a white BG now have no borders when uploaded to the forum. I can see a add one pixel border Action coming along for Photoshop images, but I use the Windows Snipping tool a lot, which is going to lead to problems. I bet I am not the only person here with a severe OCD regards page layout, font alignment, white space, and delineated outlines?

20. Re: New Forum Guide ?
Trevor Dennis May 3, 2014 9:36 PM (in response to Trevor Dennis)This is getting annoying now. You can't see who the last poster was, and I have just opened threads where _I_ was the last poster. With my less than stellar Internet connection, that is a PITA.

21. Re: New Forum Guide ?
Silkrooster May 3, 2014 9:55 PM (in response to Trevor Dennis)It was kind of like that in the last version. Sometimes it would show and other times it did not. I guess they removed last poster for now.

22. Re: New Forum Guide ?
Trevor Dennis May 3, 2014 11:07 PM (in response to Silkrooster)Bruce, I bet it is there as an option for the webmaster to implement, or not. A strange thing regards my last post, I am now seeing threads with new posts in Bold, which is what was happening when the new forum first went live. That had stopped happening for me. Another thing is that the layout has changed several times, so it is either learning from my usage, or the webmaster is making changes on the fly. (Or I may have gone quietly mad, which is probably the most likely answer )

Silkrooster May 3, 2014 11:24 PM (in response to Trevor Dennis)If moderator can not the administrator definitely can. Oh, I just noticed Firefox's spellchecker is working in this forum now. Yea, much better than the forum's or at least last version anyway.

Getting that back has to be top priority now. That's beyond annoying - it cripples basic user functionality completely.
And while they're at it, let me just remind everyone that the old web-x software (pre-jive) had the ability to jump directly to first unread post in a thread. So don't tell me that's not possible. Here we can't even get to the last post.
But the basic problem is outsourcing things like this. Once a functional forum is up and running, what can they do? Yeah, change it, that's what.

25. Re: New Forum Guide ?
Trevor Dennis May 4, 2014 5:34 PM (in response to twenty_one)I've just noticed that 'Latest reply' appears at the top of the page _after_ you open a thread, so the info is there in whatever code they are using now. The word Latest is also linked to the last post, although 'first unread' would be more useful.
I've changed the link in my Firefox Bookmarks bar from:
to:
To bypass half a page of unwanted detail.
BTW I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the hyperlinks the editor has automatically changed my URLs to, will point to the right locations.
