how to change .pptx files to word or pdf?

My computer will not open .pptx files. Can they be changed once you download them or will I have to contact the owner of the file?

.pptx files can be opened with newer versions of Microsoft Powerpoint. You can use Adobe PDF Pack to convert it to PDF format.
