Hi, we are starting using InDesign on PC using documents made on Mac, and one of the font (Officina) is not printing well (missing and strange characters). What can we do about that? Should not the documents be cross-platform compatible? Thanks.
INDD are completely cross platform, fonts are not.
If you work between Mac and Windows you should take care to use only OpenType Fonts, because they are the same on Mac and Windows.
The Mac can read Windows fonts, but Windows is not able to use Mac only fonts. Here will be the problem.
Ok, I see. So to correct our documents, can we substitute the Mac font with an equivalent OpenType font using InDesign on our PC or should this task be done on the Mac?
If the font is a Win Only font you have to do it on Windows.
Better: USE OTF! Than it would not matter where it is done.
Take care that all text is formatted with styles and that you redefine your styles!
