Can you check if you have proxy enable in your browser. try to disable it if it is enable and give it a try.

After much trial and error I was able to solve the issue.
Don't know why but the default "Managed Pipeline Mode" of Application Pool setting did not work. Instead of "integrated" it had to be set to "classic" for it to work. Don't ask me why! Anyways I figured I share this in case it helps out someone in future.
