    R3D Metadata in Prelude

    zyimages Community Member

Can Prelude CC add searchable metadata directly to R3D files?  I have a library of B-roll that I need to give metadata so it is searchable using keywords.  Any suggestions?

          Hi -

Prelude CC does support RED for adding metadata. The metadata is stored in the standard RED RMD file. So as long as you are sharing your RED Media + RED Metadata files you should be good to go.

          Hope this helps -

          Michael

The problem that I am having is that the metadata is not searchable.  Here is my scenario: I have a library of clips saved to a server.  I need to be able to add metadata to the clips so that I can search them by using keywords.  If I add metadata to a clip in Prelude (i.e. Scene, Shot, Identifier) I cannot then search my library by using keywords from these fields in the metadata.  I was expecting it to function along the same lines as Bridge, where I can search keywords and have it populate a list, but perhaps I am mistaken?  Does Prelude not function like this?  I would just use Bridge but I can't add metadata to R3D files in Bridge.

I'm in the same situation and I haven't been able to figure this out either. Did you ever find a solution?

Can you tell me more about how you are adding metadata, and how you are searching?  Are you adding markers to the ingested clips, and then searching in the Project panel of Prelude? Thanks!

I've added markers (also not searchable), but the main thing I want to be able to do is add metadata like keywords, camera model, location, subject names, etc. I do that via the metadata window in Prelude, but I haven't been able to figure out how to search that data once it's in there. I want to make sure it is searchable before I start doing this with all my footage, particularly RED footage. I have been able to get keywords in simpler files like mp3s to be searchable in Bridge, but since Bridge can't show RED files, it also can't search their metadata.

                  Hopefully that makes sense.

So, when you enter this metadata and search in the Project panel, you do not get a filtered list of files as a result? I am able to enter metadata and search it with R3D files, which is why I ask. I just want to make sure we are doing the same steps.  Are you hitting the Enter key after entering a value in the Project panel Search field?   Also, are the R3D files in the original folder structure from the camera?

In the Project panel? No, I want to be able to search an archive of footage based on these keywords. Finding things within a single project is no problem, but I want to be able to finish a project, store the data on a server, and then be able to search across all projects for footage by keyword.

For example, say I work at a university and I need to pull up all of my clips of a certain building. I would need to be able to search across all of my footage to find those shots.

                        Hi,

A MAM would be your best bet here. Prelude has the ability to support custom panels that you can write using HTML 5 that can be used to read/write/search metadata on a database.

Prelude itself does not provide this functionality.

                        Thanks,

                        Michael

I'm not familiar with MAMs, What is that? Thanks, by the way.

A MAM is a Media Asset Management solution.  It is basically a configurable database that indexes and associates your file based media with searchable metadata. It would provide the kind of functionality you are looking for here. You can find a list of partners that work with Prelude here - http://www.adobe.com/solutions/broadcasting/partners.html. These solutions can range from fairly small scale, like Axel, to highly complex and customized like Levels Beyond.  We do have some customers that use the Prelude project as a very small scale MAM, but it is limited to the project file which is not as scalable as a true MAM solution. Hope that helps!

Thanks! I'll check that stuff out. I really appreciate it.
