So here's the end result I need:
My original shot, non-stabilized but with synthesized edges beyond the original frame edge (it's a panning shot so that image information is possible to derive).
I tried using Warp Stabilizer with method "Position", "synthesize edges", and "reversible stabilization". The results are great in terms of creating image beyond the frame edge, but when I use "reverse stabilization" in a duplicated instance of WS it ignores/discards the sythesized edges.
Is it possible to get the position tracking data some other way, so I can use the ol' null object method of inversing the stabilization?
Thanks in advance for any help.
That'sa pretty neat trick. I bet you could use a precomp -- larger than the original comp to accommodate the extra edges you created -- as a piece of footage to pull of the second part of your plan.
Warp stabilizer produces no tracking information that is accessible by expression or keyframe data so you'll have to try a pre-comp with collapsed transformations.
BTW, once you do the stabilizing you can change the size of your comp and render out a DI (digital intermediate) of your larger video to use in your project. I might try that.
