Have you gone though Getting Started with After Effects?
Have you seen the Basic Workflow series?
Be aware that if you want extruded text with Ray-traced rendering you are going to be in for long render times even with a compatible Cuda card installed and extremely long render times without one.
The easiest way to make a countdown timer that will work with extruded text is to Google Countdown Timer After Effects and then look for expressions. You will find this popular universal timer expression from Dan Ebberts: Dan Ebberts's Expressioneering Design Guide
Get that far and get back to us with your problems.
BTW, there are other ways to mimic 3D extrusions and simple layer effects like Bevel and Emboss or the effect Bevel Alpha that may meet your design idea.
Thanks for your reply, However let me say that I never ask in this forum until I exhausted all other options
I did Google it and my findings matched yours- the generic standard 2d countdown that i have been using.
Let me also say that I did make a true 3d countdown timer with an older version when text extrusion was an included option with an effect
plugin I found. My question is specific to AECC which doesn't. I'm also aware of the rendering time as I have
made one with the older AE, Just not with AECC and the cinema 4 lite that comes with it.
Im still a newbie but I always exhaust everything else before i post a question.
thanks again, but still need help.
Animating a countdown in C4D Lite is not possible. There the Lte version does not have full editing or animating capability.

Are you sure? I don't have CC at work to check, but I'm fairly sure the text spline primitive object is available and I'm pretty sure XPresso is available and I'm pretty sure I could use that to make a countdown.
Although, in my opinion, a full 3d countdown is a poor design choice. Full 3d should be animated as if it were in the real world. Snapping from one shape to another isn't realistic at all. If you had a set of numbers on some cylinders and they turned to indicate the time, that would be better.
here is a you tube video tutorial where someone did it with 3d elements and after effects. I don’t have that but like I said
I did do it in an earlier version of after affects with extrusion. I just need the same in AECC since that’s what I have now.
