First thing to try is to update ID to 8.0.2.
I tried to do that. It said "This patch is not applicable for you. Please check for updates from the Help menu in your product to see a list of latest updates available."
Did you try updating from the help menu, or by downloading the patch directly?
I have downloaded the patch directly. First downloaded the 8.0.1 and then was able to get the 8.0.2. This is the current error message at startup:

I don't have Windows 8, but I suspect the commands are the same as earlier versions, so try clicking on Run from the Start menu, then type regsvr32 jscript.dll and press enter. If successful, you'll get a message to that effect. No harm will be done if this is executed on a system where it's already registered.
I have a Mac and the same thing happens, CS6 crashes at startup. It wants me to send to Apple, then this message appears.
"Adobe has found a solution or workaround for the recent crash in Adobe InDesign CS6.
Please click here for further details."
-----of course you cannot click on anything when it pops up except done. any ideas?
have you installed the 8.0.2 update?
What do you mean updates are not available?
