Stan Jones May 24, 2014 11:22 AM (in response to jimic0953)Many users recommend not using dynamic link, and the trick there is the correct export format for the version of PR and EN; an export will carry Encore markers.
But if you go dynamic link, and it is one sequence, just add markers in Encore (yes, you will have to mark only at gop boundaries unless you add them first in PR), put NO END ACTIONS on the chapters (and no overrides), and in your chapter menu just link to a chapter. Hollywood style, that it will continue to play to the end of the sequence.
If you want a chapter to play and then return to the menu, use a chapter playlist, one for each chapter.

Well, I did export my video as an MPG 2 file, but there are no markers. Since my video is DVD, what export settings should I use to get the markers for my menu? thanks
On second thought, I think I'll just try and use the chapter markers that are available in Encore. My menu needs are really simple, so it shouldn't be a problem to do this in Encore. thanks

Stan Jones Jun 10, 2014 1:28 PM (in response to jimic0953)Yes, if simple, just add the markers in Encore. Be aware that you can only add them on gop boundaries. Encore will move them for you. But this limits precision. (To be precise, you must add them before transcoding to mpeg.)
You should export from Premiere/AME using the MPEG2-DVD preset. You can change the bitrate without issue to the markers. You must keep the m2v file in the same directory as the xmpses file that is also created by PR/AME. That is the file that actually carries the chapters. You "import as timeline" the m2v/wav, and Encore reads the xmpses file.
I do not have CS4 loaded at the moment, so cannot test this regarding which type markers and whether named or not makes a difference.

Stan Jones Jun 11, 2014 11:27 AM (in response to jimic0953)GOP (group of pictures) format for compressing mpeg2 (and others).
The first frame (an I frame) has all the information for the full frame. The other frames in a group of pictures reference other frames to get part of their information. Encore requires a full frame for its information, so the marker must fall on a beginning of a group - i.e. gop boundary.
